No additional audio system option?
Does the F80 M cars only come with one stereo system? Are there no others options?
Last year when I used to "build" an F80 m3 on the BMW website there used to be an separate option but now there is no other option. I really like my music so I was just curious lol How is the quality of the stock system? |

Harmon Kardon is standard on 2016's. I'm waiting for my F80 to arrive so I can't say what it's like from experience. There are a few recent threads where many owners say they are underwhelmed by the stock HK system.

I'm pretty underwhelmed with the HK sound system. The Bang Olufsen in my Audi was far superior.

If my memory serves me right it was $5000 option.... I have much better things to spend with that amount of money. I was really impressed with my cousins 2011 BMW x3 audio system. So im sure the new HK system sounds even better. |

I've listened to the b&o system in an s4 and s5, not at all impressed. Bass reproduction was awful and distortion seemed like the systems strong-point.
H/k seems much more natural with a good thump and good highs. Doesn't have the oomph of the e9x premium audio but still is really good. Now if you're comparing to bmws b&o system, you're talking about a whole different animal lol Crank up the volume to really hear the benefits, and you'll understand.

I'm pretty discerning and with the right quality of input I don't think it sounds really bad at all. In a car it can always be better but for a stock system that isn't adding thousands of dollars to the price tag I think it does ok.... far from perfect but far from "really bad".

It's sad how a $80k BMW doesn't have a good audio system... I plan on ordering a F80 m3 next year maybe they will add another option.... |

Harmon Kardon acquired B&O's automotive division earlier this year. That's why I'd expect a B&O "high-end" option for the F8x in MY 2017. At least I hope so. It'd be overpriced for what you get but I'd still be a buyer for it.
On all of the high end audio factory automotive systems I've heard bass seems to be lacking for what I want, say something that drives down below 40Hz, with tight, clean, high volume bass. There must be liability and "social responsibility" reasons manufacturers limit bass output. Once you've experienced bass from a well-designed and installed aftermarket system - even one costing substantially less than a B&O optional upgrade - you just can't go back to the crap bass in these branded systems. That being said, I'd still go factory these days for the audio upgrade and just add more and better bass. |
