Radar detector - Dash mount vs integrated

Curious to hear people's choices, and thoughts on their choice after the fact. I love the idea of the fully integrated but was quite sticker shocked. The dash mount is a more economical option but wondering if the dash mount (using a rear mirror blend mount) is large and intrusive. Any suggestions is appreciated.

If anyone doesn't mind sharing, curious as to their experience with costs of integrated vs dash (and in either case will be adding laser jamming as well).

Blendmount looks good - thanks for this too.

I'm curious about wiring though. I've already got an appt Thursday to get it direct wired (by the same shop that did my tint and clear bra). Does anyone have experience with this? Any BAD experiences so I know what to avoid?

They don't like the mirror taps they say. They like to run the "phone cord" along the windshield to conceal it, and down to a power source perhaps under the dash somewhere. I'm not sure what they plan to tap it into...

So - any experience with this I'd love to hear it.

Thank you!

still using suction cups on my V1. they are very long lasting and cost a couple dollars to replace.

can you mount the detector between mirror and roof with a blendmount? I want my display hidden from behind as much as possible

Sounds like old school way of pimp my ride method ... Our mirror power on and off with the car. It doesn't need connect all the way to dash ! I did mount/mirror tap on both e92 & f82

They only attach to your mirrors from bottom, you can't mount it to the roofliner position ~

It's so easy to tap the mirror. Tom from eas gave instructions on which wires to tap. The only negative with the blendmount is that it does obscure the view a little and the position of my escort under the mirror prevents the auto brightness from working. Using the suction cups mounts it further forward and then auto brightness works. But then the muting button becomes less accessible. Plus the blendmount is so clean looking.

Only concern with the blendmount for me is that I already find the current mirror size to be intrusive on driving visibility. Still seems to be a better compromise then the cost of adding a fully integrated.

I love my Passport 9500ci. Although it's not #1 at any one task, it auto-learns and blocks false alerts via GPS and is "good enough" in it's laser shifting performance and ka and k band detection to alert well in advance. After having an integrated detector, I wouldn't want to go back. It's just "out of the way" until it shouldn't be. I got mine for $1,200, though, which makes it much easier to buy when compared to it's MSRP of $2,000.

Wow. Didnt know about this...specifically mirror tap. I'd been wondering what to do as well....dash vs. integrated. The mount is great too... many thanks to OP for starting this thread and those who posted!
