Gauge cluster question...

So I just noticed on the tacho of the m3 and m4 there is an M logo on the left side, my question is does this side of the screen do anything?...

The M logo looks nice and everything but i'd rather have that spot of tacho doing something or displaying something more important in regards to information

That isn't a screen at all - its just black plastic with the logo printed on. You can see this in the picture you posted if you look closely. No 3/4 Series vehicle has an LED screen that extends into that area to my knowledge. You'll have to wait for the next generation.

Oh okay, thanks for the information didn't even realize it wasn't a screen... if you ask me its kind of a waste of space they could have done something with it..

AFAIK it does nothing, I agree the //M logo is great but you don't notice it after a few days and it's a waste of display space In my opinion and I've got 17 other //M logos to look at elsewhere if I forget what I'm sitting in and need a reminder. I'd like to see something like oil or tyre temps in there (I'm obsessed with the Tyre monitor display at the moment, it will pass i'm sure lol.)

Edit: took me ages to type that. I didn't realise it wasn't a screen lol

So how likely is it that in 2017 the cluster will be upgraded to either a virtual cockpit or something similar to what's in the M5, where it stretches over both of the gauges. Personally, I hate the way it looks, since you can tell that the other half is plastic, not a screen; looks like an afterthought. Call me crazy, but this is pretty much the only thing that prevents me from ordering my M3.

Crazy! The car is great. The dash looks just fine. This is one of this things you don't even notice, and you'll wonder why you ever brought it up once you hit the gas.

Yeah... I am a little OCD My wife wants to kill me sometimes because of that. I'm actually waiting for the snow to melt and I will be arranging a test drive at night with my CA to see if it's going to bug me at night when I'm driving.
