While not the cheapest, the Manhart exhaust seems like it could be the best of the bunch.

I've reviewed just about every F85 exhaust video I can find, and the two best from what I can tell are the Manhart Sport and Eisenmann Race exhausts. The Manhart is slightly more expensive but still cheaper than the Eisenmann Sport and certainly cheaper than other sport options from GT Haus, Hamman and Akrapovic. The only exception is the new DINAN sport exhaust which looks to be the cheapest sport exhaust available, though recent posts suggest it's not significantly louder than stock. It seems the Manhart is a good deal louder and most importantly, more aggressive sounding over stock. The ultimate to me sounds like the Eisenmann Race with ER down pipes, though expect drone city I suppose.

Yeah, it is similar to stock, but so is the Eisenmann Sport exhaust.
To be honest, the main issue I have with the stock exhaust is not the volume, but the lack of aggression. I would absolutely love to have the AMG sound on our cars, though it seems that's not possible. |

Exactly - it's a raspy sound on the X5M. 4.4 vs the 6.3 I guess.
It does seem however that the Manhart changes the sound somewhat and it is more aggressive, not only louder. Would you agree? Also, as a percentage, how much louder do you think the Manhart sport exhaust is over stock, and is it only noticible in sport/sport plus, or efficiency also? |

Mercedes GLE 63 AMG has a 5,5l , it looks like they don't use the 6,3 ...
A friend of mine has a SL 63 AMG (no turbo) what a sound !! Yes, with the Manhart exhaust , the sound changes , it's maybe 20% louder and the sound is deeper. I can't answer you on the different modes since I disconnected the valve system to have them open ALL the time. |

Hi,
i am running stock exhaust with catless downpipes. Those downpipes have been built customs made by a producer in Germany, but it is not Manhart. But i assume the result is the same, as from the test on a dyne, we have nearly similar results. From the sound - with stock exhaust it is bad... The exhaust just can not handle what is delivered to it. It is just too loud. It sounds more like a rally car. I ordered the Akra exhaust, and hope that it will be able to handle the hatless pipes much better. |

Honestly, I've thought about this a bit. But I find myself liking the twin turbo V8 sound BMW is pushing out these days. It's unique and refreshing compared to the typical cross-plane v8 sound/rumble you get from most V8's out there. I'm probably just biased though |

If you are just running a catless downpipe, it won't make your muffler that crazy loud.
Drone wise, I can't comment on this since this is relative to your sensitivity to a drone. Based on my experience, I didn't feel any drone when I have catless with stock muffler. While if you have an aftermarket muffler, the muffler sound will be amplified. But, in this F85/F86 X5M/X6M case, you have resonator on the front pipe. So it shouldn't be that bad. Unless if you are going full straight pipe, that is when the muffler sound will be loud. Especially during cold start (that's when the wastegate is open). For catless downpipe, there is so much you can re-design a downpipe where any brands will produce the same amount of gain. What you are purchasing from the different brands are the quality of the welds and material. Nothing more. There is no such thing where company A downpipe will produce more hp gain than company B downpipe where both of them are catless. Unless if company A downpipe design is totally different than stock and have unnecessary bend or downsize in diameter.
