2017 Production

Anyone have any ideas when 2017 model years will enter production?

SA told me there will be some implementation of the 7-series new technology (not sure if he really knows) but had no idea when production was slated to start.

July 2016 is the last build month for 2016's from what I heard. I would suppose the 2017's will begin shortly afterwards.

i'm looking to build here very soon...do we know what's going to be different in the '17 yet? i assume exterior will be more or less the same?

i dont want to order now and realize that come july/august, things will be considerably different either interior or exterior wise.

thoughts?

maybe that will allow me to get a lower price on a '16...

Seems unlikely that it will be vastly different. Don't they usually announce big changes at car shows?

Also I imagine they want to let the 7 series tech remain exclusive for a while before it "trickles down".

The M Division is staunchly against the digital displays, so don't hold your breath for that one. Also, no M car has that dynamic auto cruise, so again, don't hold your breath there. The thing I heard that was being updated was the iDrive. It will have touch screen, and features like the 7 series, but no gesture control. This info came from a BMW Genius I'm friendly with in real life.

I was at local dealer yesterday to discuss ordering my X5M. When discussing availability between '16 and '17 MY, the manager said they had gotten a notice (within the last week) that production for '16 MY would now end on 6/30, not 7/31 as previously published. Has anyone else heard this?

Separately, he did confirm that the '17s would implement the 7 series technology.

They are stretching the truth on the "7 Series Technology". As far as ending production at the end of June, that's true. For MY 2017 the only big change coming is Touch Screen Nav & Apple CarPlay. Also, new wheel lineup. MY 2018/19 is bigger changes. Straight from a BMW Engineer that works at the plant.

Joe, Thanks for confirming. You said "For MY 2018 the only big change coming..." Did you mean to say "MY 2017" rather than 2018?

Also, any idea why they accelerated the production of MY 2017 by a month?

BMW has 90 days of dealer stock. Has to be a delay tactic.

To clarify... are you suggesting that they will have NO production in the month of July to allow current inventory to be absorbed? Or they will start producing MY '17 and discount the '16s to move them quickly?

That is the $1,000,000 question.

As I'm considering ordering... My dealer can still get allocation for a MY 16 for June or July production. Or can get an early MY 17 allocation. Pricing at $500 over invoice on either. 17 gets me the new technology on iDrive, etc. but give up the better maintenance plan. I will be buying, not leasing, but residual value on the full newer model year seems like it makes more sense to economically, even with the lesser maintenance plan. But I'm on the fence. Would be interested to hear what everyone thinks... Thanks in advance!

I guess it's too early to stay. Usually, the factory has a summer shutdown annonced in June anywhere from 1 week to 4 weeks depending on the market inventory, new model introduction, retooling of the factory, etc.

This year, here's what I can find out
6/29 – 7/3 Zentrum Closed, Summer Maintenance

https://www.bmwusfactory.com/zentrum...-museum-hours/

I'd bet there will be no x5 built in July 2016, going straight to MY 2017 after the shutdown even if the production map says otherwise...

I would guess it doesn't actually get the touchscreen, just the new idrive menus.

That is what i think as well, but got me pumped up yesterday with all the info here including car play, but carplay would kinda suck without touchscreen

Back in February it was reported that the 2017 X5/X6 was getting the touch screen: http://www.bmwblog.com/2016/02/15/th...uchscreen-lcd/
