M4 completely totalled in Montreal

According to the article, the driver walked away with only minor injuries.

It's just amazing how technology can save a life in this type of collision...

Drive safe people.

Edit: Truck blew a red light at the intersection, M4 had right of way.

Did the M4 rolled over? Looks like it due to the huge dent on roof.

From what I read, this happened at an intersection.

A truck being driven by a woman (I know, irrelevant fact) blew a red light and made impact with the BMW.

The way the roof is bent but intact is very curious. I've seen plenty of failed carbon fiber and it never looked like that. Failures I've seen are clean fractures and messy shatters. I suppose that's a good thing in this application. Wonder what they've done. Something with the weave, or resin, or layers, or all?

Hmm...I was really wondering that too. Been staring at it for a bit now and I just can't say for sure if it rolled over or not. Maybe?

The more I look at the pic, I think most likely it rolled over. Look how most of the damages are on top, hood line to windshield to the roof. Something has to make those impact, something heavy and large.

If it did rolled, I got to say, design and manufacturing was spot on to support the hit.

Be interested to see the other vehicle involved.

Woah!

That looks bad. Looks like if there was a passenger in the car they would have had serious if not fatal injuries.

Glad to hear the driver walked away.

I'd like to see the full article on this

Those that shatters are parts made with fibreglass with cf overlay. The cf roof and parts produced by BMW is pure cf.

That doesn't sound right. All the carbon fiber I've seen fail was pure carbon fiber. Fiber glass is less prone to brittle failure. There has to be something either in the weave or in the resin (or both) that is allowing that panel to deform, stay deformed, and not crack. Or the deformation of the metal around it is causing the warped shaped. Still looks very odd. I have seen aluminum and other materials layered with carbon fiber and other fabrics. Anyone want to cut open their roof so we can take a look?

Glad driver is ok. Usually when car rolls over you see marks on the side also, I dont see in this car. Still cant say it didnt. Damage can be from something that hit the car - the truck or pole or something else. Can only guess .
