ESS VT-2 Kit "Supercharger Whine" Is this normal?

Hi All,

Just wondering if this whine on the supercharger is normal or is this normal for the ESS VT2 kits? I ended up changing the supercharger pulley and belt because i thought it was abnormal.

Thoughts?

UPDATE, BETTER VIDEO BELOW

video quality was subpar but I will say mine doesn't whine. it sounds like shit but there is no whine I can speak of. Mine sounds like a handful of rocks being shaken in a tin can which is normal for these Vortech superchargers.

That would have to be one of the worst things I have ever heard about these superchargers........

Lol. Same here. Don't get the whine. But it does sound like bearing have gone bad.

Rod bearings?

wait. I think the ticking noise is the rain hahaha.

Do you hear when the engine revs up, it has this weird high pitch tone.

lol. No bearings in the super charger. All I hear about is rod bearing on this forum. It's staring to really scare me know. I should just get mine done for peace of mind.

Has the whine always been there (newly installed)? Do you only hear it under acceleration or can you just rev it? How is the oil level?

I picked up the kit from Pointsandshoot M3, used here on the forums. Since it was installed on my car I have always heard the whine. It happens under acceleration.

I ended up changing he superdriver pulley and belts and also have changed out oil too, so I have no idea what's wrong or even if there is anything that is wrong.

Check to see if they tie wrapped any of the hoses to the strut tower bars or if anything else is rubbing on the side of the engine bay. I had a whine in the cabin when I first installed my VT1. I used a mechanics stethoscope to track it down. The installer had tie wrapped one of the lines from the side of the manifold to the strut brace bar and it resonated into the cabin as a difficult to place whine. I cut the tie wrap, problem solved. Alternatively, I would highly recommend buying a mechanic's stethoscope and just touching it to different parts of the engine/supercharger to track the source. I have found several sources of noise using it and they are a cheap investment.

Sounds like you need to have the supercharger serviced, Are you sure you have the correct amount of oil and check for shavings.

Thanks, I just had it serviced. They flushed the supercharger and added 1 of the 4oz bottles as recommended by Vortech

I hear the whine through the entire video and really hear it at the end. It sounds as if you have solid subframe/diff bushings. It is not normal for that much whine but its hard to tell with a video. The inlet pipe going into the vortec comes very close to the chassis.. could it be resting on it? I really think you should have someone who is familiar with this kit have a listen in person.

Sorry i can't be more help to you buddy!

I don't think so... It's a rotational whine.

I am resurrecting this thread because i am getting the same whine from a new to me ess vt1 equipped e93. Hoping that after six years the collective experience over here might point me to the right direction of dealing with this assuming that this whine is not normal.
Anyone?
