Hopefully this isn't the rod bearing issue (E93 2008 6MT 54k)

I was wondering if anyone has any insight they could share about this E93 2008 6MT 54k issue:

While coming off a highway on-ramp today and revving at about 6k, I had a total loss of power when shifting into 3rd, followed by a loud metallic rattling noise. The noise was loud enough to make me think I hit something. I inspected the undercarriage, found nothing and continued to drive home. The noise was gone for a bit, but eventually came back briefly while driving.

The car makes no rattling noise when idling and doesn't seem to be constantly rattle while driving. It seems that is inconsistent with the rod bearing issues seen with this car. Any thoughts?

On a side note, I've noticed that it's became very difficult to push the shifter into reverse recently, but that seems to be an unrelated issue.

By loss of power, was the engine not revving or was it revving, but the car not going anywhere? Kind of sounds like your clutch and flywheel are toast if the motor itself runs fine.

Well, you were right. Clutch blew a hole through the bellhousing. fml.

sorry to hear man. It doesn't look like the bell housing has any holes in it though. Trans might be fine, so overall it might just be a basic clutch job.

Shifting problems usually mean a clutch is on it's way out if it has some good mileage or hard use on it. It's hard to tell with the e9x possibly because of the twin disc, but in older cars, the clutch pedal engagement would also start to change when the clutch wore out. The e9x has a self adjusting pressure plate which probably provides a consistent clutch pedal regardless of clutch condition.

Looks like I forgot to add the last picture (I edited the post). It clearly has a hole in the bell housing. Thanks for the help.
