How do these jack pads work? do they fit inside the factory plastic housing? I've regular jack stands. Will these need special jack stands to go along?

Yep, the jack pad fits inside the factory plastic housing allowing you to use a low profile jack (with a flat surface) to lift the vehicle. The jack stand blocks are used with Torin style jack stands like the following:
