StormtrooperF80 goes Retro in M-Town

As much as it was fun having the StromtrooperF80 in the garage and even being voted Performance BMW Magazines Car of 2018, I was nothing less than tired and bored off the look. I'm born in 70's and lived through the eighties as a kid in Germany. I love classic cars of any kind and my collection of Hotwheels BMW Race cars keeps growing. I bought my Car in 2015 around the time BMW released their CSL Hommage and I have been looking at it ever since.

While I understand that many of us may getting tired of seeing successful and unfortunately in many cases also bad attempts to do /// M striping on cars, I personally love the stripes when done right and decided to give it a go.

However no one wanted to do the design for me based on my ideas. Thankfully I do have a 3 year old Bimmergirl at home, who after hard and long negotiations that included a bribe with Ice-cream provided me with her crayons
To go to M-Town on black and white printed pictures of my car. Yes Crayons! I have zero Photoshop skills.

Once I settled on the design and colors I needed someone with the skill set to execute it, so I contacted my friends at Signature Graphics in Scottsdale, AZ. But the shop was too busy and I am not a trusting person when it comes to strangers on my car.
I put the idea aside and concentrated on starting up my own e-commerce company called HKP Tuning & Performance.

Talking to my little brother who owns a successful Wrap shop back home in Germany about my business adventure, the wrap for the M3 came up. Mind you, my brother Felix has been European Wrap Star 2013 & 2017 and is also a member of the Team that holds the 2018 Guinness book of World Records title to wrap a full body Car (Model x) in 22min 56.25 seconds.

Long story short, he was able to clear his schedule, flew from Dusseldorf, Germany via London to Phoenix, AZ on 4/2 and after a just a few hours of sleep got to work on 4/3 with the material that Signature Graphics sourced for me.
We obviously couldn’t this job in my garage, so my good friend Tony of Lusso Motorsports said we can use his brand new facility.

I had been also talking to Anrky Wheels since SEMA 18 on their new 2019 release of their Retro series. I fell in love with the RS3 design in brushed copper, polished step lip and satin black barrel with exposed hardware.
I figured it would go perfectly with the theme I was trying to achieve knowing the 3.0 CSL had in many cases gold wheels with a polished lip.
The guys at Anrky got their manufacture HRE to pull off a miracle and cut the wheels on April 3rd , painted, assembled and shipped them overnight just 2 days later.

We rolled out of the garage on Friday 4/5 at 11pm exhausted, but happy as we possibly could have been with the results. Made it to C&C Scottsdale at 7am Saturday and moved shortly after 9am to the Elite Tuner Car show winning Best of Show
Just 16hour after finishing the car. W. Bruening Photography, who helped design the front lip and rear bumper took the below pictures right after we finished and on the way to the show. I hope you enjoy them and the result as much as I do.

I am preparing for Clean Culture this weekend, but will see many of you at Bimmerfest on the CSF Race booth and possibly at the HRE open House and many other shows this year. There are more changes to come, so please
Stay tuned.

Respect your elders and Welcome to M-Town!

Special Thanks:

Felix, Christian / Foliencenter NRW
Jon, Charlie, Guy / Anrky Wheels
Tony, Carl, Adam, Taylor, Savannah / Lusso Motorsports
Ken, Scott / Signaturegraphics AZ
Will / W. Bruening Photography
Hannah, Katrina, Phil / HKP Tuning & Performance

Car looks awesome. Love the way it came out. Takes a lot of patience to do a clean re-do. I get bored very quickly as well, but usually end up selling and buying something else. Maybe I try your way next time.
Great job.

Where did you get those retro Motorsport Roundels? I remember there was a company years ago making them but they've gone bust, I think.

I don't know what but I absolutely love this:

Great overall execution! Yes, it's loud, but it's supposed to be. I also love the M stripes!

I made this is Forza as a homage to the DTM M4, and it's something I would be willing to drive around with!

One of the most original builds ever. Nice!

Incidentally, does your vehicle have air suspension?

Thank you very much! The grill inserts are personal preference. But I understand my taste is certainly not everyone's. Thanks for the feedback

Hate to say this. But I actually bought all of them on Ebay. I literally purchased from every vendor I could find that looked decent. The one on the trunk is the worst from all and from a guy in Croatia I believe. Can't recommend that one, but its the only only one that had the size. The Front is good and I think its from a company called Squidd. It's nicely done. The best is certainly on the C pillar, which came out of NY. All metal, but they are for Motorcycles and wouldn't fit trunk or hood. Those are beautiful though.

Thank you very much. They are just aesthetics though. No function what so ever
