Help Request: Extended Merino with Luxury Seating?
Hi everyone -- new here, but hoping for a little help: doing our build for the G05, and I much prefer the Extended Merino to the Vernasca, but we went to the dealership last weekend and my wife wants the ventilated/massaging seats -- I haven't seen an interior with the Merino & ventilated seats -- does it still have the same pattern the normal Merino has?

Also, the ventilated seats push air OUT. This will help keep the seats clean over time, as dirt won’t get pulled into the leather.
Both The ventilation and massage are mild. With the ventilation running at top speed, you can hear the motor - sounds like it is right behind your head, but if you turn it down a notch you can’t hear it at all. The massager takes a minute or two to ramp up. It is not strong, but if you adjust the settings to a specific area (as opposed to full body) you can feel it better, IMO. |

If you're ordering a M Sport, $1K upgrade to extended Merino is a no brainer. Merino leather is the highest quality leather option BMW offers in the X5. For 2020 you can order full Merino leather interior as an option. The Vernasca is perforated also. Works great with the ventilated seats.
Seems to me if you choose Msport you get the extended merino. I have an xLine and didn’t have the option. Trust me, the Vernasca is very nice. Merino is also, but not sure it is really that much different to justify the cost. It is probably very profitable for BMW tho, as are many other deluxe upgrades. I suggest you go to the dealer and see/drive cars with both. I didn’t do that, but I have no regrets. |

Merino is an additional $1K from Vernasca. Sure there's a difference to justify the cost, you're getting the highest quality BMW leather for $1K ($2450 from SensaTec). Luxury seating is $1600 includes $750 multi-contour (which is a f'ing steal these days compared to $1200 and more years ago) on top of what ever your leather options are. SRSLY you just bought a very profitable SAV from BMW. Please don't confuse the OP. The standard Vernasca sport seats have an entirely different seat design than Vernasca with multi-contour and Vernasca with luxury seating. @BayAreaBimmers To clarify Luxury seating include the same 20-way multi-contour seats with heating with ventilation and 3-level massage functions added. Vernasca with multi-contour seating and Vernasca with luxury seating have perforations. There are more perforations in the luxury seating for ventilation e.g. in the seat cushion. There are non functional design perforations in Vernasca multi-contour seating. When you upgrade to extended Merino you get different seat stitching pattern. Appreciate everyone's replies, thank you. We have Vernasca on my wife's 440; we will almost absolutely be getting Merino on the X5, I just wasn't sure if the merino stitching pattern in the back (around the shoulder blades, etc) would change when getting the perforated option — looks like it doesn't. Thanks so much!

This thread is actually really helpful.... although I'm more confused now.
I didn't splurge for the Merino... the B&W was the most important to me, and then it became a matter of trying to squeeze as many options as I could I could get into my price range. The merino didn't make the cut. But, the Luxury seating with massage DID make the cut. I don't see the difference though... What's the difference (on an M50i) between: 1) Vernasca Leather 2) Vernasca leather w/ luxury seating package?

Zoomed in 2) to give you a better idea. 1) Just has decorative perforations in the upper back rest, down the center leather strip of the back rest and center leather strip of seat bottom.

Upgrading from Vernasca to Merino also upgrades the standard sport seats to Multi-contour seating. From there, the decision would be upgrading to Luxury seating which is Multi-contour with heating, ventilation and massage.

It’s really $1750 to upgrade to merino since you have to add multi contour. I had it on my build but took it off last minute. Was already up to $77k and didn’t want to go higher. It was approaching Porsche Cayenne prices.
The regular leather seemed fine in all my test drives. |

Thanks! I'm leaning towards the Merino leather option. I've read some concerns people had about the durability and having kids or dogs but Merino leather doesn't seem like an issue with a little bit of cleaning and maintenance.

haha I originally thought adding the Merino leather option would be a 1K add on but soon realized I had to add the multi-contour seat option too. Super excited for the car to arrive!
