Dynoing the M5

Taking my car in for dyno tomorrow. Is there a specific way to set these cars for the dyno? I know the later cars have dyno mode but can't seem to find any info on the F10.

Thanks

The operator should know what they are doing, but yes i believe there is a dyno mode. Also the car needs to be run in I think 5th gear

Where are you taking it?

Do you know how to access the dyno mode? I cant seem to find any info. Just taking it to a local tuner, he charges £50 so thought it was well worth checking out my stock and stage 1 power.

I can't remember if it's a 4wd dyno, I had my e60 done there before so just called him this time.

I always use a 4 wheel dyno as I think BMWs can have issues on 2 wheel dynos

I just took my car to get dyno'ed last weekend (found an issue and fixed) and will hopefully take it again this weekend now that I'm back to 100%.

As for the dyno process, the person doing the dyno should know what to do. They should set all the driving modes to most aggressive & turn traction control off. Do the pull in 5th as that's our 1:1 ratio for our transmissions. They might also plug in a few wires to measure fuel/air ratio, etc...

Be sure to post the results!

5th is the ideal gear but some operators won’t run up that high

Unfortunately I got a drivetrain malfunction due a misfire earlier. This meaning I can only dyno the car in stock form. Has anyone had trouble with misfires on the stage 1 tune? My plugs are Bosch with only 13k miles on them.

Its an issue with BootMod3 and their Stage 1 tune I believe, I think they make a bit more torque verses OFT which causes issues as the map is a bit more powerful

Never had an issue with OFT and plugs and they say you dont need them. Some have mentioned that on the latest OFT the V2 they have issues but not on the V1.2

I've never seen a 2wd drive need a 4wd dyno. There was a few other BMW's at the dyno day as well. Since the front wheels aren't doing anything in terms of driveline, there is no need for them to be on the rollers. Most shops actually charge more for 4wd dyno's.

When I dyno'd we didn't put in dyno mode, we used 2 wheel mustang dyno and he had to use 4th gear due to speed limiter being hit in 5th gear if I remember correctly.

I posted it maybe 8/9 months ago
But 509 or 504 to the wheels and 515 or 520 rwtq on mustang dyno and the guy explained how it's load driven and reads 10-15% lower than dyno jet.
