Car is not ready for emissions

Hi Guys,

The time has come for me to do emissions test. I live in AZ and I have a bootmod3 tune 93 octane with AMS catted downpipes. When I went for my OBD emission testing, the tester showed me that the vehicle is not ready for emissions and certain sensors are not giving results. I have no CEL or codes.

Anyone know what app to use to see if the car is emission ready or what should I be doing? I read online regarding something on drive cycle for BMW to get it emissions ready. Anyone has any advice?

I know back when i had my tuned F10 M5, tuners were not capable of setting it to "ready state". It always showed "not ready". I was lucky enough to find an inspector that made it work for me. If you were in TX I'd hook you up.

Did you call/email bootmod3 to see they are able to make the adjustments to set it to "ready state" or skip it altogether during the cycle when it's started.

As for reading it, get an OBD scanner, if I were you, could invest in a OBXLinkMX+ so you can do other things like coding. You can then use DashCMD or OBDfusion app to scan.

Your "readiness" will go by key cycles, miles driven etc. You have a few emission parameters turned off in the tune for your catless down pipes. no matter how much you drive, key cycles etc. they will always say not ready, this is why you don't get a check engine light. Your only way to legally get through emissions is to go back to your stock tune for emission testing. You can try reloading the stock tune and see if all your monitors will set and not throw a check engine light before you can get through inspection. There will be a time when your monitors set and then a C/E light will show. You are trying to time your inspection in that time. Worst case you have to re install your stock down pipes with the stock tune for emissions testing. GL

That's the biggest challenge with stock tune. Timing it all. Never worked for me.

I agree 100%, thats why I always stayed with stock downpipes. Its too much of a hassle to keep switching back and forth between stock and catless, not to mention the smell from the catless.

Thanks guys for the input. My downpipes are CA compliant so I believe they are not catless. As far as the emissions test, I do not have a CEL. Does anyone know if bootmod3 stage 2 93 tune or any of their tune deactivates certain sensors to ensure the CEL does not illuminate?

I reflashed my ECU to stock tune this morning and drove about 50 miles and start stop a couple times. No CEL light yet. Hopefully that solves the problem. Going to get the emissions testing done tomorrow.

Any thoughts?

Stage 2 Tune is for catless down pipes as far as I know.

So what I did was flash my ECU back to stock without locking my DME and drove approximately 150 to 200 miles. I was not able to do the drive cycle profile diligently. the EVAP system took the longest to get ready for some reason and it was the decelerate from highway speeds to 20mph without touching gears or brakes.

I used OBD Auto Doctor App on android and VEEPEAK bluetooth OBDII adapter to monitor my status. This app was a lifesaver!
