My car is burning no oil?

Hi everyone! My first post here.

I recently got my 2012 Monte Carlo Blue M5 3 months ago and I've noticed that it isn't burning ANY oil. I feel like I'm being paranoid because I assumed some oil burn but in the nearly 3k kms I've driven it the oil level reading hasn't moved from max. Is there something I should be looking for ahahahaha

Are you driving it hard? I noticed that I never burned oil until I tuned the car. Go figure

I don't drive it hard 24/7 but I definitely do, still doesn't burn. Interesting what you noticed with your oil burn I didn't expect that

Other variables such as oil viscosity/manufacturer also can play a role in whether or not an engine burns oil. My F10 M5 with 10k miles doesn't appear to burn any oil, either.

It's only a cause to be happy and celebrate the fact you don't need to watch the level like a hawk and add oil every couple of weeks.

These engines are less likely to use oil than other M engines, but it is known that many of them CAN use oil. As mentioned, driving style, environmental conditions and specific oil brand/weight will have a small influence on this metric.

My specific M5 uses more when giving it a thrashing, but overall on average it consumes 1 quart/liter between 5k oil change intervals.

I change my oil once a year as she gets put away for storage, I never have to add oil and the level doesn't move all year. I have BPM Stage 1 tune. I don't put the mileage most do on here since it's a weekend car for me, I have 9k miles.

I dumped a relatively fresh sump of BMW LL-01 FE 0w-30 and went to a BMW LL-01 5w40 in Ravenol VST. I wanted a 5w-40 for protection of the bearings. It's an excellent PAO based oil. Now that US gasoline has the same low levels of sulfur as Europe does, you can actually consider a BMW LL-04 but the Ravenol 5w-40 RUP was not presently available at Blauparts when I recently made my purchase for my annual oil change (<2k miles annual.) Motul has excellent oil as well, 8100 X-cess or X-clean 5w-40 have good specs, as well. Some such as Troy Jeup swears by Red Line 5w-50 which as a really high HTHS of 5.0.

I had read about the Ravenol also with great reviews on it. And Troy is the one who mentioned 5-50 to me. So far with the Edge 5-50 my gas mileage is up from 13 to 16 on my normal commute. ~7miles, not too much stop and go. Pretty impressed. Not sure what mine had in it, as the previous owner did an oil change about a year ago but had only driven a few thousand miles on it and didn't have the receipt.

I finally had to add a quart this week after 26mo of ownership and 20k+ miles. My 50i X5 burns a quart every month.
