Tires

Does anyone have any recommendations that fit these 3 boxes for me:

-fit wider/larger than typical (aka that thiccc look)
-Decent tread life on daily/backroad duties (10k miles+)
-Very grippy without being R comp

I have looked at the RE-71R, AD08R,RS4 in the extreme category

Then MPSS or MP4S in the tier below.

What do you all recommend and in what sizes?

I was under the impression the MP4S was the best performing tire with the best tread life, even outperforming the extreme tires you mentioned.

I remember reading that goodyear was releasing or has just released an 'R" class tire to compete with the MP4S. Worth a search

I've seen many positive comments on the performance of the MP 4S. Considering BMW spec'd cup twos for the M3CS but shod it with MPSS for the U.S. market (supposedly for safety reasons) why did they not put the MP 4s on it. Has to be a reason I would think. Once my MPSS are gone I will seriously consider them.

My CS is not my daily but there is still a chance I could get caught in the rain. That and I can't stand hearing small gravel kicked up into the fender wells makes me shy away from R compound.

If there was ever a topic that's been beaten to death, it's tires.

Do some searching. You'll find more than enough information out there to help you make an informed decision.

I put MP4S on mine in January last year, a definite improvement over the OEM MPSS tires.

There aren't too many topics on people using extreme summers for daily driving and their durability etc.

Most topics are focusing on heavy tracking/autox use for them which is totally understandable as they are built for that.

I am just trying to get a sense of how durable some of these tires are for spirited driving and daily duties, I really love the look of the RE-71R and the ad08r tires but if they can't last me 10k miles on the street I can't justify them.

I agree with above about the PS4S being a solid well rounded choice.

I'm actually running continental extreme contact sport right now and am impressed with them too. I've only had them for 500 miles so I can't speak to longevity but they are able to handle stage 2 power without spinning. And they're very quiet.

I previously ran the Toyo R888Rs. Grip was incredible but the rears only lasted me 7k miles. And the road noise is terrible.

I just got the PS4S put on Tuesday (went from the OEM PSS) and these are significantly better from what I can tell so far. Smoother ride quality (keep in mind I had been driving on worn tires for a couple months so maybe I forgot how the PSS felt when new) and nice deceleration on dry surfaces so far.

PS4S best all around for life vs grip. RE71R's for shorter life but better grip.

Went from MPSS to PS4S... going to RE71R's for the track.

I currently have Bridgestone 007A 255/285/35/19. Dry grip is better than OEM Michelin PSS and Continental 5p. Unfortunately, tire grip is highly dependent on temperature and tarmac surface. Sometimes it grips sometimes it does not. I don't think thread life will be more than 10k. I have about 7k on my tires and the rears are almost done. I drive spiritedly but not as much as I would like due to multiple cameras and low speed zones in the DMV. Tried the Continental extreme contact sports after I exhausted online reviews but got rid of it in less than 6k. Grip performance I would say is on par with the Bridgestone 007A (below expectations for especially on wet roads). Simpy got rid of the Conti's due to the soft sidewall. I have not tried the MP4S but I suggest if you want to try it its better to get the Lexus RCF specd MP4s if you want to avoid the soft sidewall feeling. I have a suspicion its truly the best in terms of wear and grip if you can live with the Lexus spec 255/275. For our F80/F82, lower your tire expectations in terms of grip. The torque will overwhelm the rears on bad surfaces/tarmacs no matter what. Its the reason why everything next gen will be AWD. I have had my car for 4 years and just accepted that 1st and 2nd gear in most cases is a waste of time.
