Might just be all the camo, but anyone thinks there's a chance the M3 won't use the 4 grille?

pretty hard to tell based on the camo. but historically the 4 door m3 has always gotten the 2 door M3s front end. The e90 m3 got the coupes front end and headlights.

anyway...Talks about safety, less friction in the steering (aka less road feel), better damping for bad roads, awd for snow, etc. seems more and more like they are pitching us a daily driver rather than a sports car that gets your adrenaline up.

Then to top it off the guy presenting, the head of M driving dynamics, wears an M vest with his collar popped halfway up his face.

Ah, that might explain it. I was wondering why the shots of the car in this clip looked different than most of the other spy shots I've seen.

I believe somebody from BMW was quoted saying that they want to differentiate the 3's and 4's more. And the even numbered vehicles will have more dramatic design elements. I think the G80 will have a normal front grill and won't be as similar to the new 4 series as the current generation is. I think the 4 will be rocking that huge grill solo-dolo.

Hmm I wonder if Scott26 “confirmed” that they are going to get the same front ends. I think he did but don’t remember which thread I read it on

These news reports seem to say that only the 4 Series will get the huge grilles as a way of "differentiating" the 4 Series from the 3 Series. I remember BMW hinting that they wanted further differentiation between the two models at least 2-3 years ago.

Depending on how you interpret the articles, and they all say basically the same thing, the huge grille could just be on 4 Series and not on 3 Series. Since the G80 is a 3 Series, this could mean that the M3 won't have the huge grille.

https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/06/03/b...series-grille/

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...grille-design/

https://www.motor1.com/news/426602/b...-other-models/

The article from Motor1 actually says 'Head of BMW Design, Domagoj Dukec, who told us that the new 4 Series' so-called "vertical kidneys" are unique to this vehicle, and this vehicle alone.'

Of course, this isn't definitive, but it gives some of us hope. My next car might just be an M3 and not an M4.

Unfortunately, the M3 is going to have these huge hideous grills as well.

Like I've said before, the M3 is the M version of the 3-series. It shouldn't be taking design cues from the 4-series. If BMW wants to foul up (I mean differentiate) the 4-series, go right ahead, I like my 4-doors anyways. Now it seems the M3 is just going to be an M4 with two extra doors.

If, and it's a very big if, the G80 shares the G20 and not the G22 front end, I would buy a G80. If the G80 just turns out to be a G82 with two extra doors, I'm out.

That would make the G80 vs G82 decision easy...

^^^This. Look no further than the iNext to get a sense of what BMW thinks is the way forward in terms of design.

DSC activated and we have no problems driving at full racetrack speeds? You don't feel at all restricted? Say what, BMW?

Do the brakes last the entire lap too?

Must be dreaming

very curious to see which brakes this comes with. Regardless I'll be swapping mine before its first track day.

At first I thought they might use the M2C brakes, but in the vid I see a sliding caliper rear brake

Supposedly it's for the new e-brake.

Or it's BMW being cheap
