Not in the U.S.A.. I don't care for it either. It just screams "satellite".

Think of the fin as a directional stabilizer for your land rocket.

Is it still on the car if you don't get the BMW assist or premium package option? On the E46 M3, it is only present if you have assist. I think cars look better without them also, though I have grown to accept mine. They are almost status symbols on modern cars, at least BMW does a decent job of incorporating the fin with the car's styling.

Yes, it's still on the car if you don't get BMW Assist or Premium package. In the US the fin comes on all 1ers. For the E90 and E92 M3 the fin comes standard on all of them, regardless of region.

It STILL gets it. They stick it on the trunk. Looks like there's no way around it for the 1.

This fin on the roof is purely for satellite radio right? I will strickly be using CDs and maybe ipod in the future. Anyway to easily remove this thing? My current car has satellite and havent used it since I got it 3 years ago.

Are you sure? The BMWUSA website doesn't show one on the trunk, only the conventional antenna.

Tom
I was at the dealer the other day and it was definitely stuck on the trunk. Kind of intrusive, like smack in the middle of the lid. I prefer the location on the coupe.

I saw it on a vert at the dealer, too. Kind of looks like a body-colored aftermarket sat radio antenna.

Hmm. I'll have a look next time I'm at my dealer. While I would rather not have it on my 128i cabrio, in the overall scheme of things it's a pretty minor concern.
Thanks for the info.

Pretty sure, unless she got an option on this car that added it:

Huh, my memory must be failing me, because I didn't think it looked like a mini-fin on the verts. I thought it looked like a rounded square lump. Oh well.

Both of my dealer's 128i convertibles have the shark fin on the trunk as shown in Jeremy's pic. But at least, it's much smaller than the humongous one on the roof of the coupe and the 3 series coupes & sedans.

It's there - along with the conventional antenna.

Doesn't look as bad as the roof-mount, IMHO, but it is an appendage...

The shark fin on the 1er Cabrio is actually very practical in that there is no good way to close the trunk without getting finger prints on the trunk lid.
I have found the shark fin to be the perfect fit for the fingers to use for closing the trunk..

The fin on all BMW's houses the satnav antenna and cellphone antenna. If you have neither of those, you won't have a fin, afaik.
