08 or 09?
In another thread someone said the 09's can be in production (or was it ordered?) in 6 weeks. I just put my order in for a new 08 135i.
Should I get the end run of the "year of the one", or wait another few weeks for an 09. Benefits either way? My first post btw. Thanks to all for pic's & info thus far here. |

Welcome! I voted '09 just because of the chance of tweaks to the options or colors and such, and since it won't be that long before they come out.
On the other hand, I sure as heck wasn't willing to wait ;-) |

If you plan to get the nav system with iDrive wait for the '09. It will have a new feature where you can send destinations to your car via Google maps. Should be really handy when planning road trips, rather then manually entering them via the iDrive system.
If not then I don't think there will be any other significant changes to the car for 09, so you should be safe getting an 08 if you don't want to wait an extra 6 weeks. Dan |

I was thinking deals will be available on the 09's as the supply will be high, which may end up costing far less in the long run. With the late/short supply of 08's, the value should hold fairly well. I guess I was wondering from a value point of view which would be best.
I'm going with graphite/red, and will not be getting nav. Close poll so far. |

Supply will not be high on this car. Annually (not model year), the US is getting 10k 1ers total, with no immediate plans on increasing that.
I think the reason for that strategy is that they are making peanuts on this car in the States, due to the ever depleting dollar, but they probably do not want to water down the brand image, if people begin perceiving the 1 series as "the cheap/cheesy BMW", a la the 318ti was perceived. Not saying that people won't be getting better deals on these cars than us bleeding edge adopters, but it's not going to be because of the supply chain filling our market. |

when people start stepping into 09's in there a chance you can get a slight break on 09's? Difficult to determine future pricing w/ market all over the board, production being slow and demand being high.

I would have to believe the price would go up for the 09' as well. BMW is already running a slim margin on the 1 series and a new model year is a good excuse to raise the price a few hundred dollars.

Effective June 1, 2008, there is a price increase on options and destination charge. Other than that, the base price remains the same for 1 series cars in the US. |

Unless you've got an 08 allocation right now ready to go into production, you'd be wise to at least consider waiting the extra coupe of months for an 09 allocation. You'll get to enjoy having a current model year vehicle for a much larger portion of the year, among other advantages.
