Cleaning/Detailing after a salty winter

The Winter here in the NorthEast can be quite brutal, but worse than this is the salt on the road (I know, I am not telling you anything new ).

I was wondering if you guys had recommendations as to which locations and how you would be performing a Spring cleaning in order to avoid rust and corrosion down the road.

Normally with anything i do preventive maintenance. In the fall i will do a thorough cleaning.

Clay
Polish
Sealant.

The Sealant is the most important i think since it will give protection for a few months during winter. If you get nice weather during winter months then it doesnt hurt to throw another layer of sealant on.

Avoid wax since it doesnt have the durability as sealant but you can put a layer of wax on top of sealant for an added shine/protection. Once spring arrives i do clay, polish/paint cleanse, and some type of carnuba wax.

Im sure there are detailing experts in here that can add to that.

+1 on the clay, polish and sealant. Polish isn't always neccesary but definitely clay your vehicle before the harsh winter and seal it at the very least twice.

Cheers,
Nick

Thanks guys! Anything that should be done underneath the car? Parts to be rinsed or sprayed with WD-40 kind of lube?

Marc, have you seen underneath these cars? They are very well covered underneath with only the differential and exhaust pipes exposed. I wouldnt worry too much about cleaning underneath the car.
