Macht Schnell, as it's a perfect fit. The AFE was slightly louder though and it did sound "cooler" but only by a small margin.

I vote for the AFE oiled. I'm running the Macht Schnell right now, but will be putting my AFE back in. AFE's quality is cleaner and it sounds a little more "snorty." If you really want to be original though, pick up the BMC. Gorgeous quality and great flow

From what I was told each one is about the same with small differences and no real power gains...remember it is just a filter! It provides more air so there will be more sound and slight, slight, slight umpfff...I got the AFE dry. I'll install it this weekend.

You'll pick up 5-8 horsepower with a good drop-in filter. The main benefit in my opinion is that it sounds better than the stock filter and easily washable.

OT: Has anyone done this? Keep the OEM original filter and when you go see your service department put the OEM back in. I've read at least one post where somebody at the service department swapped out the Macht Schell (or was it AFE?) and put in a BMW filter. Maybe they threw it away or maybe they kept it for themselves? Just a thought.

I figured I'd just tell them don't change the filter, hopefully that will be all I need to say to them.

I'm looking for a drop in air filter as well. AA claims 7 hp on theirs, is their filter any good?
They all prob do the same thing right?

I'm really looking for more sound, the 5hp doesn't matter to me.

The BMC has beautiful molding and the red molding that they use is pure sex

The gains will be felt going from a stock filter to an oiled type - there's no reason to change from one oiled filter to another.

The MS units are of 8-layer construction and can be washed/reoiled as needed.
