Watermark stains on bonnet

Hi all,

I washed my car on the weekend and dried it off with a chamois cloth as per usual.

Upon closer inspection of the bonnet i noticed what appeared to be dried up water droplet marks. I tried to wipe the area again with the moist chamois cloth but alas the water marks seem stained onto the paint and will not come off.

I only washed the car the week before and didn't notice these marks -- any ideas what caused this, and more importantly, what's the best way to get these marks off? It's most noticable when you look at the bonnet on a 30 degree angle.

Any help would be much appreciated!

p.s. I've been lazy and haven't yet clayed or waxed, but it's definitely on the to-do list!

Cheers

wax will not remove water marks. try to clay bar, if that doesnt work try vinegar, if that doesnt work you will need a light polishing

what causes that is minerals in the water on the car... whether it be hardwater or minerals in rain etc.

clay might do it, but then you'll most likely need to polish out any marring anyways. I'd hit it with a buffer and some Menz polish. This will almost definintely do the trick.

honestly I'd try vinegar first... if your car doesnt need a polish, dont polish... also take a look at the detailing guide stickied here... it has good tips for that sort of thing.
