Dusting with a Swiffer okay?

Just wondering if using a Swiffer (those static-electric-dust-clingy-things) to un-dust the car is a viable technique in between car washes? It shouldn't scratch right?

Bad idea. Any dry duster will leave scratches.

No - also will guarantee scratches. Find a source of water and wash it properly. Or a wand car wash, but don't use the chemicals, just put it on rinse, and use a microfiber mitt and some good quality car wash product, with carnuba wax.

We have pretty draconian city ordinances about washing our cars - and I don't want to spend every weekend taking it to the car wash. I just need something to brush the dust off and extend the clean look of the car in between car washes.

If there's no easy solution - I can always spray the car down and soap wash it - but I'm looking for a less fuss solution.

Only use swiffers on the interior. It's a lot harder to un-scratch than it is to un-dust.

Also don't get any ideas of using a paper towel to take off bird crap or anything like that.

Get yourself 2 buckets and your choice of rinseless car wash - Optimum No Rinse, Detailers Pride Rinseless, etc. - a good lambswool mitt and a couple waffle weave microfiber towels and wash as often as you want.

I was pleasantly surprised when I used the DP rinseless stuff the first time - it really does grab the dirt and race it down to the ground leaving behind very little that would worry me when I'm wiping with the MF towels. Takes about 30 minutes vs about an hour for my standard hose wash.

Another option would be something like a California Car Duster... I'd use something designed for this before I even considered letting a swiffer near my car.
