New 50i owner Please help!
Hi to all, being around and reading the forum for about a year now and totally loving it. I have recieved my x6 50i and driving it for 4 days. Woowww it is a beast! I have some questions though if someone can help.
1.The engine sound while on stay it is not smooth is it ok? 2.While driving at constant speeds not fast i suppose it is in 6th gear and when i press the gas a little it does not smoothly accalerates a while and then nice smooth acceleration. Is that normal? 3. From stand still full throttle does not pull hard half a second and then fine, is it a turbo lag? If you guys can help me out with these questions I would be really pleased. Thanks |

The engine and tranny are just trying to conserve fuel. If you want to drive agressively, put the stick in sport mode. Things should smooth out a bit.
Also, make sure you are using quality fuel and that the engine is thoroughly warmed up (10-20 minutes). I experience the same thing with my 3.5 It is not so much turbo lag as hesitation. Partly because it is a 5,000lb vehicle.

Agree with Shenard and Chuck. Proper warm up is important. It seems to take longer than a standard engine to get fully warmed up. But like they said, if you want the punch shift over to DS mode.

...and wait until after the breakin period. You will see a performance change.

+1 agree. Not only does engine need to warm, but tires do not reach max performance until warm, and sometimes not at all on cold days with summer tires.

Thanks guys to all the answers.
I came from NA cars to turbo and it is little strange, before the turbos start to work in constant speeds it seems like it shivers underneath? Do you guys feel the same thing? |

sounds like turbo lag, this is my first turbo car too , less than thrilled with turbo lag. In heavy traffic at a stand still you can't stomp it to jump into the next lane into an opening between cars, just too much lag. So I am adjusting my driving style.

I drive mine pretty hard, and the turbo lag was frustrating. Now that my car has been tuned by Dinan, the lag is completely gone, and the extra HP and torque are nice
