Keeping NAV Screen from Opening
I worry about the motor on the display/Nav screen going bad on me. Does anyone know if there is any configuration or setting to change so that it doesn't always open?
Thx. PS: Finally got to hardwiring my Valentine last night. Why is it that working at night always takes longer (took 3 times to pin an RJ-11 right, and stuck my finger twice with a line tester!) |

If you manually close it then turn off the car - it should remain down when you start up next time. But no way to keep it from popping up when you change the station/track/basically touch anything.

Even if you keep it down, I would still hear the motor trying to open the screen for a split second during startup. Since the motor is running anyway, I figured mind has well have it flip up the screen. I just wished that there was a way to keep it up all the time, even when the car is shut off.

I suppose if we dug deep enough into the dash we could unplug the motor with the unit in the up position. Whether that would trigger errors, or even be possible without a lot of hassle/time is another question. I'll PM Chris and see what he knows. He pulled his nav, so he may have some insight.

I've gotten around the screen popping up by using the Aux-in and putting my iPod under the hand brake. I select a playlist when I start the car, or just leave it on random shuffle. This way I can use it without looking at it or taking my attention off of driving.
It would be nice to have a secondary manual switch for the nav screen so I could listen to the radio the same way.

I kinda like always having a map there, I blame all those driving games I've played.

I've had interest in this topic as well, but figured that it isn't a big issue as I haven't encountered forum traffic involving the same. Has anyone's nav screen motor failed yet?

Jeez, don't ask that! It's like talking about speeding tickets at a party. (just kidding)

My nav screen sometimes open half way, stops, then closes automatically. Sometimes it needs a good thump on the head before it will open fully. (or can manually open.)
I don't see why the motor can't be simply disconnected and the NAV left in the open position if you wanted. Note that in the manual for the NAV it does clearly state that you can open/close the NAV by hand if you want and don't need to use the button. So I assume if the motor died in the closed position you can still open it by hand without breaking anything further. |
