Soft top question
Hey all,
I have a 128i convertible and I always thought the soft top was fabric so I've been treating it with fabric cleaners and fabric repellents but when I was going through accessories on BMW website, I found out that BMW Soft-Top Care Products package includes "Vinyl Care" Is that just for interior vinyls but just included in soft top package or is that for the soft top? More straight question would be, is BMW soft top fabric or vinyl? "BMW Soft-Top Care Products Original BMW Care Products offer you the right products to care for and protect your soft-top. Cleanses soil resulting from usage and environmental conditions, such as tree sap. It is recommended that you treat your soft-top with the appropriate agent after each cleansing so it can continue to bear up to the elemets. Soft-Top Care Kit contains: Vinyl Care, Soft-Top Cleanser, Car Wash Shampoo, Repellent, and Treesap Remover." |

I've had my 135 vert for almost 3 months and water was still beading from the factory seal. But I did just do two coats of RaggTop sealer after washing last weekend.
That's probably the stuff you want to get. |

Many fabric and vinyl surfaces are best cleaned by the same exact products. For example the 303 Cleaner & Spot Remover for fabrics and vinyl is the same exact product as the 303 Convertible Top Cleaner, just labeled differently and the Raggtopp Convertible Top Cleaner - Fabric and Vinyl Tops is labeled accordingly. So in short you have a fabric top still and the cleaners can care for both. If you have any other questions please let me know.

Okay so I understand that the RaggTopp cleaner is good on both fabric and vinyl, but what about a protectant? With RaggTopp, there is a vinyl protectant and a fabric protectant. Which will work for our tops?

These are not vinyl or canvas, but a laminate consisting of several components, a top layer of a solution-dyed acrylic textile, a middle layer of butyl rubber or urethane, and the poly-cotton headliner.

So, which RaggTopp protectant do we use for our tops, since there are two different kinds?

Series RaggTopp ™ Fabric Cleaner and RaggTopp ™ Fabric Protectant - were developed specifically for cleaning, re-proofing and preserving convertible tops, fabric tops should be cleaned and retreated every three to six months, these cleaning kits consist of two products:
Although the fabric does not promote mildew growth by itself, mildew may develop with the combination of moisture and dirt and/ or other foreign substances that are not removed. This is especially true in warm, humid, dark environments. A program of keeping the fabric clean through regular washings, before it gets dirty, will enhance the life and beauty of the acrylic and make successive cleaning easier. |

I use 303 products; Fabric convertible top cleaner and fabric guard. I'm very happy with the results.

I know we have a NeverWet thread here, but I didn't see there any references to people using NeverWet on their vert. tops... anyone here had experience with that? Seems like a perfect solution...
