Am I the only one still worried about turbo lag?

The reviews are somewhat mixed about whether it is or is not there.

I saw a new M5 the other day on the street and there's a lot I really love about it. I really want to believe that I wouldn't notice any turbo lag, but it would be a deal-breaker for me if there's even a hint of it. Unfortunately test driving one where I live will be impossible.

Anyone else still worried about this?

None of the test had shown this! so far.. But i think BMW must have worked this out because it would be a shame on a M car.

I'm test driving one next Tuesday. I'll let you know if there is any lag.

I drove one yesterday, and I've got to tell you.. It is an animal!
In my opinion there is no turbo lag, there is just power from 1k rpm untill the redline.

The only thing I was worried about was the sound.
And I have to revise my opinion, the sound is verry unique.
From the inside you feel like you're in a huge blender because there is the sound of the exhaust, turbo's and drivetrain.

If you would fit some akrapovic mufflers, it would be just perfect.

Did you observe the artificial soundtrack coming from the speaker system? Did it seem fake, real, non-existent? Please do tell your impressions.

There is none. I had an X5M, with essentially the same engine, which had no perceptible lag at all and I currently have a 550i which also has no lag, either. Other than the 997 turbo, turbo lag has essentially been banished on modern cars, and on a 4.4L V8 it would be really tough to notice anyway.

I test drove it in Spain, I did notice the lag, However it's so brief that most drivers don't even know what to call it and after 1 minute you won't even care because torque is everywhere, in any gear floor it and the car pulls like a Shinkansen train.

Could not agree with you more - but after driving it for a full day on and off the track I got kind of addicted to the different harmony of the new M5.

+1 it pulls like a go kart and the lag is nothing compared to RPM lag in the V10. The power is everywhere its mind boggling.

I could not agree more. Once you drive it you realize it is a crazy car.

Thanks all for the comments, particularly those of you who have been lucky enough to drive one.
I am just astounded how there was so much concern about lag a few months ago and now it seems like most people have forgotten about it, smitten by the sheer power I suppose
