black isn't black, is it?
hi guys,
all my cars and bikes used to be black so far, a color with which you can´t get wrong imo. but this time, when i ordered my m5, i chose singapore gray for it. i thought it is time for a new color for me. BUT when i left the dealer with my order in sg, it felt not 100% right. i screened all the forums and web for pics in sg to compare with black ones. and finally i visited my dealer again and changed from sg to saphir black. inside it´s all black as well. this felt much better, i just was not courageously enough to change my used color. BUT now i am thinking about the three different black-tones you can order for the m5 : saphir black (standard black) citrin black (individual) azurite black (individual) i just found azurite black in this forum, looks also great - with a shine of blue in it. but what about citrin black? anybody got a pic of it in real or owns an m5 in that color? what do you guys think about this tree tones? wich color would you prefer? do you think anybody is able to recognize the special black tone at least or is it also "just black"? the car is expensive enough, so the higher price for an individual color doesn´t change the total costs at all. i still can change my configuration. thank you for your advise and your thoughts. kind regards |

I have seen both individual colours and I can tell you if you see them and then see Black Sapphire, the individual colours just shimmer more. I don't know how to describe it, you can tell it isn't just a standard metallic paint. I think Azurite is spectacular, probably the best 'black' I have ever seen. You can't go wrong with any IMO though as colour is very much personal preference. Congrats on order, let us know what you finally decide.

You can definitely tell azurite black is not normal flat black in the daylight. I would think at night under street lamps, it looks black. To my mind, black is a bit too 'normal' for this car and you should go for something slightly different. I had a carbon black e60, but when I saw azurite, I was breathless for a moment at how amazing it looks in person :-)

No, it is not a frozen tone. There is actually a Frozen Black too. It is just doesn't have the level of shimmer in its colour. It looks more black than Azurite or Citrin; those colours tend to give off a pearl effect of bluish for Azurite and almost a brown/orange for Citrin; Citrin is hard to describe. I really like it, but I can't put my finger on what it is. All I know is that it would look great with the champagne interior

Any of the blacks with the "blue" metallic tones clash with a black interior IMO. You need to be careful. Citron is awesome but begs for a saddle or amaro brown interior.

All 3 of these blacks are named after a type of gem or mineral (azurite, citrin(e), and sapphire). At its core, all of these colors will be black in the background (whether or not the core black differs much, I'm not sure). Within the black, are metallic flakes of each of the aforementioned mineral/gem colors. Sometimes, it can be very difficult to discern. It is easiest to appreciate in brighter light, and with a clean/waxed vehicle. Obviously, it's best to see in person, but if weather conditions aren't great you won't get your best viewing.
Citrin Azurite Sapphire

IMO, all of the blacks compliment the M5 nicely - especially with the right tint and cosmetic updates.
What I love about the Singapore Grey is that it is a unique color to the M cars (5/6). It also seems to hide dirt well... not as good as Silver, but way better than my white M3. OP - you have a good problem on your hands in that you will have an amazing M5er no matter what color you choose. Keep us posted on your decision.

Go Citron black with Amaro brown leather. I just ordered my 535 in JET black with the Amaro and after upgrading to the right set of 20 inch rims I think it is going to be stunning. I didn't want to spend the extra $$ for the citron, but if it were money not a factor I most likely would have took a chance with the citron.

I've had too many black cars.i've sold some just because the color too. I can't handle the swirls that never go away. They polish up nice and three days later swirls are back. And its never really clean! Only in your garage after you polish it. Drive halfway down the street and its dirty looking again. I could not take it. Nothing looks better polished up than black. Nothing looks "older" faster than black though. I started getting all white cars a few years ago and have had way less stress with my cars. Lol. Actually resale is better on light colors as you can't see swirl marks and light scratches at all looks new longer. That said the citron black is sick!!! Love it. And the sapphire as well. Both awesome colors. Not for me though. Never again black for me!

Should have stayed with the Singapore grey. Dark enough yet not black. Black cars are a pain to maintain and hides a lot of the lines of the car. Every time I see a black BMW or Merc, I just assume it's some type of TCP limo service.

From what I remember, between the three colors, the closest to Perfect Black (e.g. like total pitch-black darkness) is Black Sapphire Metallic.
Leave put Frozen Black.....because matte paint doesn't seem to be a part of the OP's criteria. With that said, you could probably ask BMW Individual if they can make an M5 with the following color: JET BLACK Paint Code 668 Also known in the German language as Schwarz 2 (or Schwarz II) |

Black II ( Jet black) if you want real mono non-metallic black
Sapphire black for a very nice metallic black. In the sunlight Azurite to me is more like dark blue with some black mixed in . Not black. In the shade its black. Citrin in the sunlight is a dark brownish color, again not real black.
