Odor free leather care?- Any suggestions?
I love the spirited drive of my 128i but My wife cannot ride with me becayse of the scent in the car. The smell does not appear to be coming from the ventilation system, but neither can I place it on anything in oparticular within the cabin.
I am at the point that I want to cean and conition the Boston Leather and dash with products that will remove any scent causing compounds and protect the surfaces without adding odors. |

"How big is your mechanics nose? take it to him for a diagNOSEsis.'
Good suggestion. Tried that with mechanic and several others also. They all can detect the odor. Some say that it smells like leather, other say more of a perfume smell, perhaps an air freshener. The odor can be detected throughout our double garage if the window is open as little as an inch. |

Try to air it out for a day. Open the windows and let it sit like that overnight. (outside, not in the garage) maybe the order will dissipate considerably.

How new is the vehicle? It may be the interior materials (finished leather urethane, vinyl, carpet adhesives, and etc)
Clean interior surfaces and allow to thoroughly dry and then ‘air’ out the interior See article “Allergen, Odour and Germ removal Systems” - http://http://www.autopia.org/for...ost1459219 |

I purchased the vehicle December 2011. the original owner purchased it in April 2008.
I would rather not let the vehicle stand overnight with the windows open but I have done that several times during sunny days here. The winter has been unseasonably warm in February and March but seldom above 70. Maybe eventually the odor will dissipate buit I would not have expected it to persist for four months. Still I would like to preserve the leather and other interior surfaces so that they will look as good as the outside. |

Weird! My car had the new car smell for about 6 months but now it has no smell. Maybe the previous owner was a smoker and they sprayed it with something to mask the smell???
I say use a leather cleaner and then a conditioner. I use Lexol but anything should help. Make sure you use a cleaner first as it should take anything off the leather that was put there by the previous owner. Take out your mats and clean them. I have a small Bissel carpet cleaner that works well but there are lots of carpet cleaning sprays you could use. Then just give the dash a cleaning. If that doesn't work get rid of your wife...then there will be no complaining! |

Thank you for all of the suggestions.
Following one, I am purchasing an 'Ecco Touch' interior detail sampler. These products are advertized as having no artificial scents. I will post back in a few weeks with a review |
