I sold mine modded.

Figured i would list the car modded for a month and if no serious interest i would part it out.

Luckily found a buyer so only one person to deal with.

Sell it stock and then sell me all your parts

I managed to sell my nissan s15 modded (heavily). However similar to gumballs logic, I first listed the car on as many car enthusiast forums (firesport, melbs15, skylineau, jdmst etc) as possible and if it didn't sell I was going to put it on carsales stock.

Luckily it sold on the forums 3 days after I did my mass marketing.

Did you list it modded on carsales?

Happy to work something out....though shipping may be an issue.

Looking for a 1series now, some mods are turn off, but if they are quality parts they don't hurt. But that said they won't increase the value.

I just listed the total value of the mods on the add (include shipping in the amount).

If someone contacts you they are after something special so therefore they will be willing to pay for the mods as if they buy a stock car it will cost them more to modify it.

Just keep telling them you are willing to part it out and sell stock if the price is not right.

I might be putting my lightly modded BSM 135i up on the market soon.. was actually thinking of parting out first and selling her stock but this thread has now got me thinking that there might actually be potential buyers out there who wouldn't mind some mods (I mean everyone will eventually get a JB4 at least right? :P)

PM me if anyone is looking for one in Melbourne!

I had a friend try to sell his BMW lightly modded with no luck. Maybe harder to sell a euro with mods cause people in the market for our types of cars may think mods = tracked lol!

Selling a jap car was so much easier listed my s2k up and it was gone!

Parting out! may be interested in parts

Tried to sell it stock.. no go.

Tried to sell it slightly modded... no go.

I think these cars are really hard to sell full stop.

I think you need to realise that the asking prices for all of these cars are way over inflated and this can be verified by the fact that the same cars seem to be on carsales for months. Its not a good market for used cars, probably never will be. So then it gets down to marketability, most (MOST) people think that a modded car means thrashed-and that's because its true -doesn't mean its not a good car just peoples mentality.

I would advertise it stock and when people drive it and go "holy cr&p" then you tell them its modded, by this time they are already hooked. Sold my last car this way the same day to the first person who drove it.

It depends on the buyer, I travel allot for work so I always aim for a modded car with a few kms on it and the work all done. I was waiting months to find a modded 135i but didn't find anything so bought one untouched, regretting it now. That being said I don't think I am your average buyer.

I agree withy thezone re carsales, I bought my 2008 135i with 75,000kms for $31k four months ago.

they still haven't caught on in australia, that they're a modern, nice, high performance RWD turbo that's easy to get bulk power out of, not expensive to buy, run, maintain.

half the people you see think it's a 4 cylinder

most of the rest think it's non turbo something

all of the above groups are shocked that it's a turbo 3.0 6, even more shocked at the power it can produce

and then the tiny tiny remainder actually have half a clue... even mechanics/lots of enthusiasts mostly don't fall into the latter

that's an insanely good price though, especially if clean and 6MT.

2008-2009 N54 of any sort, prices are falling deep into 'affordable' territory, there's no reason they should be sitting so long, except for the above, and 'ohh it's a BMW it must be sooo expensive to run!!'

But how do you justify the difference in price to those of similar year model and mileage? Provided you list it for $5k more than the cheapest similar stock car on carsales! Which I'm intending to do to get some of the money I spent on modding back!
What I understood from Steve's idea is that you're basically targeting a small minority of enthusiasts and hope that one of them would be interested in a properly tuned car and maintained car to save themselves the time, effort and cost of modding!

I agree but these people are in the minority and there are a lot of cars to choose from.

Sold my fully modded 135i on Carsales. First guy who came to see it bought it. Got the price I wanted too.

Only thing I regret is that I bought my 1M very soon after and had to start from scratch!

heh I get that a lot.

Always nice to give people a little shock when they hear that it's got a big displacement and twin turbos.

The 135i is basically a sleeper peformance car which is good and bad..

Looking for a 125i M Pack manual white, black, blue maybe silver mods or not. In Adelaide so preference is SA or Vic car. Would consider 135i as well but don't want to upset anybody so probably not in my budget. Pm if you are looking to sell ready to buy now.

I'll be selling mine soon as I've just ordered a M235i. I'd rather hold it until closer to the new arrival though if possible.

Literally listed it last night as per Gumballs advice and sold it this morning before lunch.

Works if you price it right and have the right car that people are looking for.
