1 week update:
I routinely remote start before getting in and experienced no problems. Yesterday, however, I got in the vehicle and fired it up and got an error code for the right brake light. This repeated again when I started it up to go home 20 mintues later. A couple hours after I remote started and it didnt show up. This morning I remote started and no error. Got in about 20 min later, started it up and received the same right brake light error code. I drive home, shut it off, and started filming to record the error. Surprisingly no error code. I start the vehicle multiple times and no error code. I'll try again throughout the day and will report back.

Fyi my taillights have X5 written on the sides. I also went through a car wash and no moisture yet.

I've had mine installed for about 45 days now and no issues/moisture. I ended up getting a second set because the first was not delivered, despite FedEx saying it was, then they magically showed up 2 weeks later and I of course ordered another set. If anyone reading this is interested in purchasing my brand new set, DM me. Link to exact set I bought: https://a.co/d/clZUjOd
How much

ipayincash's user avataripayincash completely out of topic but your rear diffuser looks awesome bro! Do you mind sharing what kind is it?.. also the detail to your taillights look good. I seen some taillights say LED or X5 on the side.

It’s from Maxton, tons of us on here have it. Really completes the look I highly recommend it ! It is abs plastic so feels a little cheap vs ordering a high quality carbon fiber but it definitely works and doesn’t break the bank

Quick shot of my install last night. Shout out to ipayincash for providing the seller. Works as advertised and will update as time goes on.

Also replaced my 93mm exhaust tips for 105mm. That will be in another post.
Interested in where you got the tips in this picture WTXRob's user avatarWTXRob . Any chance you could provide a link? Also interested in seeing your new ones!!

Update 10/13: Reached out to the seller about the error code and they sent me a new set altogether. This set has no logo on the side, but it looks to be better quality/ fitment and the lock/unlock sequence is a bit different. So far no codes are tripping on repeated start ups.

Vstrong: those tips in the picture are the 105mm tips. Here's a comparison between 93 and 105mm. Not that big of a difference but it is more noticeable in person. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mO2W1k9

Did anyone ever have success with the smoked version of these that were clear and black?

I got a set from AliExpress. When unlocking the car, only the bottom part of the light flashes. When the turn signal is on, it seems like only the bottom is flashing as well. The animation doesn’t seem to work as well. I only installed the driver's side as a test to make sure I like them, as it’s easier than the passenger side. Do both need to be installed for them to work properly or something?

Just wanted to share my experience with the tail lights I purchased from amazon. Ipayincash said his tail lights were good, so I used his old link to amazon but I think It's probably a different seller [Decent Auto].

Here's the link if anybody is interested:

The way the brake lights up and signals is different, but I like it. Only the bottom portion lights up when braking. Bottom portion signals only. And running lights are both top and bottom. Middle does nothing as expected. The sides say "x5". Fitment is 98% and zero water issues on the tail lights [Went through 2 storms, car washes]. The only issue I have is the "Right brake lamp malfunction" message that sometimes shows up. Doesn't bother me much since all lights still work even with this message.

Little more expensive than directly from Aliexpress, but through Amazon you have a return policy. The seller [Decent Auto] is from China but ships UPS 3 day to you as well. I still went ahead and showed a photo of the error message to the seller and he sent me a replacement Right Side tail light at no charge. I probably won't change it out as I have a set with no water issues or fitment issues.

Hi guys,

I've bought the lci aftermarket tail lights from aliexpress (aokeding). They came without any text on the side...so no "x5/bmw/led"

They are still in the package, currently no time to do the retrofit. But I have one question to those who have already installed them.

Maybe I am wrong, but I suspect the brake light isn't bright enough. There’s barely any visible difference between the brake light and the standard running light.

Can someone confirm that?

Thank you

Are you faced with quality issues at bottom? It is partly "white" inside instwad of black. Left side more affected than right side...

I read the full 17 pages of this post and I just installed these aftermarket fleabay tail lights and of course I am getting the "Right Brake lamp Malfunction" error. I got the TYPY "brand"/seller. Is there any coding that can be done via ISTA to get rid of this error? I have searched the forums and found nothing. OR, is there any other aftermarket tail lights that is recommend that doesnt show the error? Based on all these posts, it seems like a hit and miss. Do I buy, return and buy again? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

These are plug and play and should work. There is no coding necessary do yourself a favour if you have a chance to return them get all your money back. I got screwed for full value.

sorry guys to hear about all the issues you experiencing, I feel like it partially my fault as I was an advocate for the store everyone bought from (not that I made any profit out of it) :)

on the same note I still have no issues with mine, no sync or moister to report :confused2

I will keep my eyes open for sure, but its been couple of months now...

casual run to IKEA this morning (don't pay attention to "missing" tow hook cover :)):
Can you please provide the link where you purchased?

Anyone else tried the Bayoptiks ones? Aren't they supposed to be a reputable company?

As an update, I've had mine for 8 months now. No water/moisture, no error lights/codes, etc. Couldn't be more perfect honestly. Mine are the AKD brand from Alibaba. I have an extra set if anyone wants to buy them and pay for shipping, hit me up.

You got the exact same trouble than me.
The error comes when engine starts. If you drive electric no error.
It happens then more often when battery is empty. It can also happen when driving electric and I out car in sport mode resulting in engine to start
Did you find a solution??

Update:
The white border was a kind of lime, I was able to remove it with a glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth.
I have to add that I pulled rubber spacers over the bolts during the assembly and then installed the rear lights because otherwise they were not flush with the bodywork.

The accuracy of fit is not 100% like the original bmw taillights, you can best see in the upper area in the tailgate, so the gap is simply too large
