Hey everyone,

So I’m doing a steering wheel conversion to an LCI steering wheel for my ‘25 X6 40i.

I got the steering wheel from an aftermarket company and it fits perfectly, although the new vibration generator (32305A8A8D8) is located at the bottom of the steering wheel. My current steering wheel cable doesn’t reach the new vibration generator and the company didn’t include an extended one, so I thought about getting an LCI G8X harness (32307908508) or any other LCI steering wheel wiring harness.

I was wondering if the new wiring harness is compatible ? The only issues I’m seeing is that an M wiring harness might throw an error code since the M1/M2 outlets aren’t connected. And the the connection between the harness, the horn plate and the wheel itself might not work.

Here you have all the part numbers
https://paddleshifterz.com/?s=Flat+bottom&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1

If i am correct you will need:

- steering wheel
- steering wheel bottom cover
- vibration module
- steering wheel top cover
- wiring harness

- a steering wheel trim?
https://paddleshifterz.com/?s=steering+wheel+trim+lci&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1
but which one?

Because the x5 does not have m1 and m2 buttons.
I want a black carbon fibre one.
But the black ones have a cut out on top fot the m1 and m2 buttons?
So only a silver trim is possible.
Or you can order the buttons and mount them as a dummy?

Yes, but BMW hasn't officially made a steering wheel for the X5/X6/X7's. Paddleshifterz confirmed the fitment for 2/3/4/Z series only. The wheel wiring harness made for those cars might not fit our cars, but I'm willing to try it out.

Correct, if you want the Carbon fiber trim, you'll have holes at the top. In my case, the steering wheel came with a wiring harness for the M1/M2 buttons for the center console so I can use them to scroll through the driving modes.

If you buy the parts from BMW themselves, you'll need to get everything separately, however if you get the wheel aftermarket, they include everything.

Ok Thank you!

Tell us if it works with the new wires and vibration motor.

How is the wheel and leather quality compared to oem?

I'm really interested in this. I'm picking up my new 2025 X5 M60i and I want to swap the wheel so bad to the flat bottom one.

So the new wheel is working in your 25 X6? Besides the vibration motor your waiting for, do you have all original function? Did you have to code any thing?

Your new steering wheel looks awesome. Were you able to reuse your old airbag? Any issues with the new steering wheel? All buttons work OK? Thx

that is awesome, i am definitely going to try this.

I ordered non-carbon version steering wheel to better match my non-carbon interior, and this button layout is nearly identical to my car. Also you need to order a G20/G42/G87/ airbag since X5 airbag won't fit into this flat bottom steering wheel. I paid nearly $2k total. Maybe I can sell the stock steering wheel and airbag to minimize the damage. Since steering wheel is something you'll see/touch/use 100% of time during driving, I think it's a worthwhile purchase and it will probably add about 5 hp...

How do the aftermarket wheels address the hands off sensor? Will they also work with DAP, vibration and heated function?

I managed to fit the LCI OEM steering wheel.
Ordered everything from my local dealer.

The problem was that my automated driving wasn't working anymore.
Tried everything, the solution was to switch the black modules from my old wheel to the new.
Now everything is working!
Had to make the cable for the vibrator a bit longer because you can not unplug it from the black module.

Also the red M1 and M2 buttons are not working.
But for know you can only order the top cover with the holes for these buttons.
So i mounted them, because it looks nice, and now the holes are filled on top of the wheel

These are the parts that i ordered:

Wheel 32305A8A906
Under cover 32305A8A910
Upper cover 32305A8A907
Vibrator 32305A8A8D8
Cable 32305A8A914
CarbonTrim 32307908506
Hornplate 61319882774
Nuts 32305A8A8E2
M1&M2 buttons 61318090047
Airbag 32305A250D1

Sorry just saw this Post. Will this steering wheel and all its parts work on a 2025 X6 M60i? I think this steering wheel is perfect.

I was going to swap my OEM steering wheel with the newer flat bottom style on my 2025 X5. However, I decided NOT to do it for few reasons.

First, I didn't want to disconnect battery. I'd done steering wheel swap on my old 2001 3 series which was basically an analog car with no digital instruments, but I still had couple electronic issues after the swaps. Although they got cleared, I don't want to risk anything on my $80k car which is full of digital stuffs.

Second (for important reason), BMW can potentially void my warranty for swapping with "non factory authorized" equipment. I know this may or may not happen, but there is fairly good chance. For example, if I have any kind of electronic issues later, BMW can blame it on the swap and make me to pay for the repair.

Third, airbag swap or installation MUST be done by a certified mechanics! I know it's a pretty straight forward swap, but law is pretty clear on this very important safety feature on a car. For example, BMW made it very clear to use a brand grounding screw & washer on a new airbag for maximum electrical contact, but I'm sure most people just reusing the old ones. So if the airbag doesn't deploy and you get injured, you cannot sue BMW.

In overall, I decided that the potential risks clearly outweigh a minor cosmetic improvement....

Hello, to install my OEM lci steering wheel i disconnected my battery 5 times, no issues..

for the installation of my new airbag i ordered a set of new screws and plugs also.

I understand airbag swap is fairly easy and I've done it myself, but that's not the point here.

It's highly likely (you need to check with your state law and warranty agreement since there are many variables) that swapping airbag yourself WILL void your car's warranty. If you added any extended warranty, you can say goodbye to that too.

Also it's very important to wear all ESD (Electrostatic Static Discharge) wrist band & shoe on top of ESD-safety floor mat during any airbag swap to prevent accidental deployment. However, almost everyone (including myself) did the airbag swap in garage without any of these equipment.... guess we all got lucky because exploding airbag at very close range (especially near your face) can cause serious injury or even death

If you don't believe this, check with your local BMW service manager. I bet he won't say "Oh, that's perfectly fine to swap your own airbag although it can be quite dangerous (accidental discharge during swap) and/or your can get killed if the airbag doesn't deploy in an accident because something didn't get done correctly".

Think about it. Airbag is the LAST LINE OF DEFENSE in a major accident. Are you really willing to mess with it just for a minor cosmetic improvement? Your family can drive your car too. You will never know if your swapped airbag will work properly unless you're in a serious accident, so are willing to take that chance AND potentially voiding your brand new car warranty?

To me, it's not worth it, not even close. It's kind scary that I did it many years ago and almost did it again...

use some wire from your old wheel, or other wire and some soldering
