smjtri wroteIt may take a week or so after assembly has been completed. So when does a VIN become searchable to quote insurance?
Randall V wroteSame. I just go to any BMW dealerships website and use one of the VIN's from the same trim.If I take my VIN of my not-yet-built X5 and put it in the Owners Manual section on bmwusa.com, it gives an error. Annoying.
I’m still set for 12/20. Would like to have it by the end of the year but by the time this goes to the dealer in VA, and then gets shipped to me in Florida, I probably won’t see it until early to mid January.
Randall V wroteThey seem to be running a little bit ahead of schedule - maybe they undercommitted on the expected build dates due to the intermittent chip shortages.I logged into bmwusa and noticed my prodDate build time just got push up from 12/16 to 12/12.. I guess I am week 50 now..
Mine got moved from a 12/13 production date to today with pretty much no notice. I called the automated line this morning and it said it was entering production 12/9 and would be completed on 12/10, but the app/site showed no changes and BimmerTrack still referenced 12/13 at the time.
I checked it again this afternoon and BimmerTrack now shows status 153 with a completion date of 12/10...so it does seem like the statuses may have a delay updating on the app/site.
chron7070 wroteThat’s awesome! I’m still 12/20, but hoping towards next week the date moved up!!!They seem to be running a little bit ahead of schedule - maybe they undercommitted on the expected build dates due to the intermittent chip shortages.

moveswiftly wroteI called the automated line last night for the first time, and they said mine started production on the 9th and should be completed on the 12th.. So the prodDate on the website must be the date completed. Unless the voice system just spits out the same day you call as the begin prodDate. I will call again today to confirm. That’s awesome! I’m still 12/20, but hoping towards next week the date moved up!!!
I think yours will be a bit earlier than expected.. Mine went left by 4 days, so if that holds, yours might be complete by the 16th? If so, the only question is if they can get it to the dealership before the 2nd (assuming you want the special financing deal).
Randall V wroteAssembly takes less than a day, about four hours, so the production date is the date is starts and completes. So the prodDate on the website must be the date completed. TurtleBoy wroteBut it can move up correct? Lets say it's showing a Prod date of 12/20, it can be sooner if the factory is ahead? I then would assume that the opposite can happen as well? What status code would it show right after it's built? ThxAssembly takes less than a day, about four hours, so the production date is the date is starts and completes.
moveswiftly wroteMine was totally complete and in status 182 - Awaiting Carrier Assignment by 10am today. I would not be surprised at all if yours is complete well ahead of 12/20.That’s awesome! I’m still 12/20, but hoping towards next week the date moved up!!!
Neo1010 wroteObviously, they build extra time into each day and when that is not used for any issues that arise then builds are pushed forward. The opposite can happen also. Right after it is built it goes into QC/155.But it can move up correct? Lets say it's showing a Prod date of 12/20, it can be sooner if the factory is ahead? TurtleBoy wroteMy prodDate on the website is still 12/12/2025.. When i called today it says it started production on 12/09, and will be complete on 12/12.. Website shows the same as last week - no activity, stuck at 150.Assembly takes less than a day, about four hours, so the production date is the date is starts and completes.
I think they are just yanking our chain with these dates.. If they can build it in 4 hours, I don't know why they have such a large number of steps on the website build status. It is unlikely someone will login during the 4 hours to see it progress through all the different processes.
Randall V wroteMaybe too optimistic, but I’m really hoping for a 12/22 or 23 delivery… I’m in NY so I’ve heard 1-2 days max for transport. heading out of state 12/23 and not returning till 1/4. But dealer said they can FedEx me the paperwork if needed…I called the automated line last night for the first time, and they said mine started production on the 9th and should be completed on the 12th.. So the prodDate on the website must be the date completed. Unless the voice system just spits out the same day you call as the begin prodDate. I will call again today to confirm.

Fingers crossed for an early production.
Randall V wroteFirst of all, most information on the Genius line should be ignored since it is not accurate. As far as the statuses go, not all are used for every plant. Spartanburg for example does not report the building of the body or painting since they use a different process to build the vehicles due to multiple models being on the same assembly line. Rather than having a VIN attached to a body that is being built, the bodies are built and painted and put on a rack. When a body is needed for a specific vehicle build it is removed from the rack and the VIN is attached to it. That is why there is no reporting of the steps between 150 and 153.My prodDate on the website is still 12/12/2025.. When i called today it says it started production on 12/09, and will be complete on 12/12.. Website shows the same as last week - no activity, stuck at 150.

As far as see the progress goes, the status is not updated in real time but rather batched a couple of times a day. That is why you will see folks reporting that theirs was 150 and then later that night it went to 182.
Randall V wroteWhy would you think that is not a good sign? Sounds like at this point all is progressing as expected. So, today was production day for me.. It was stuck at "Entering Assembly" all day and then jumped to "Quality Check" late in the day. Quality check late on a Friday afternoon -- this is not a good sign. I expect it to be missing some lugg nuts, muffler, and the rear seat.. :-)
TurtleBoy wroteI was kidding... But it is a thing..Why would you think that is not a good sign? Sounds like at this point all is progressing as expected.

Randall V wroteProduction moved up to 12/18!!! Very good.
