We were toying with doing a PCD pick-up if it lined up with my vacation time in March. The dealer submitted the paperwork a couple of weeks ago.

Today I was informed that the car is delivered to the PCD but the earliest date is after my vacation. So I asked if it can be delivered to the dealership here in town instead. They responded it would be an additional $1K delivery fee at this point, which I wasn't aware of originally.

Has anybody else been caught by this? I'm willing to just fly out there an pick it up with out doing the scheduled PCD course if that is the limiting factor.

Just curious how I should respond....

As far as I know, they are just trying to get extra money out of you. Of the PCD dates don't work then the vehicle will be delivered to the dealer as normal. Contact the folks at the PCD and explain the situation to them.

Thanks. The said it was already delivered to the PCD, but it won't be available for pickup until after March 10th. I told them I could pick it up the week prior without the PCD experience but they said the date couldn't be moved up.

How far is it from the assembly line to PCD?
I just don't understand how something can not be available for pickup yet I would have to pay to still have it shipped.

I pushed back with the dealer....I think you are right, they are just looking for more money.

And you told the PCD staff you wanted to cancel PCD and wanted to have it shipped?

The dealer requested then cancelled PCD. I never interacted with PCD.

Think I should contact them directly (PCD)?

Yes, I think it would be worth it to do that. Explain the situation and say the dates don't work and you would like to have it shipped. Their email is PerformanceCenterDelivery@bmwmc.com.

Edit: Never mind. I am seeing some references to the customer being responsible for shipping charges if they cancel PCD after the vehicle is delivered there.

I would take another vacation day - fly there from Dallas and drive it back. It is really worth the experience. (And not that it matters but the PDC is within a mile of the factory).

If it was me I would take another day and get it PPF'd and tint (at the place BMW PDC uses). Well worth the extra day - on top of the delivery and track experience.

Performance Center is across the street from the Assembly Hall. There’s a parking lot behind the PC, adjacent to the car wash, where the PCD cars are parked. Easy to pick out as they all have a large tag hanging from the rear view mirror.
IIRC, delivery freight costs for the vehicle are still paid when you elect to do PCD, but that’s not your issue, which is you requested PCD then declined it after the car was delivered to the PC.
I believe you may be able to select a later date and still do PCD or pay for the vehicle to be shipped a second time.

Can someone please post the name of this company they use for PPF? Thanks

So can somebody explain this....if the vehicle is at the PCD now (I called an confirmed it is out of production), why are they telling me I can't pick it up until after 3/10? Wife and I wouldn't mind the trip, even if we can't do the full PCD experience. I just don't understand why I can't just show up on 3/2 or 3/3 and drive off with my paid for car. Or are there more steps I'm missing that have to be done.

Since your vehicle has been delivered to the Performance Center there is no reversing it. You are 100% committed. You’re selling dealer should have stipulated this when you initially requested PCD. Generally shipping it to your dealer from the PCD is an out-of-pocket expense.

Plant Spartanburg is directly across the highway from the PC.

That is not the way they release vehicles. You can always try but they have a process for PCD deliveries and are not set up for someone to pic it up outside the scheduled deliveries.

Ok that makes sense.

So I just got off the phone with BMW Genius and they are telling me car is still waiting to be loaded at assembly and being sent directly to dealer, not PCD. So maybe the PCD cancellation was processed in time.

Would have loved to have done the PCD request, I just don't have any more time in March available and we don't want to put it off much longer.

I would verify that with your CA and the PCD staff. Genius generally just tells folks anything to get them off the phone.

CA=?

Sorry I know it’s probably an obvious thing.

Thanks!

FYI, Performance Center email = PerformanceCenterDelivery.@bmwmc.com

Edit: PCD = a different priority # than P1 (customer sold unit).

We dropped if off immediately after the delivery about 3:00 and it was ready the next day at 5. Full tint (windshield looks great) and PPF on the front end and rocker panels, door edges. Perfect work.

That is quick as Doug’s crew has done four PCD vehicles for us and it typically takes them a day and a half. Most recent was performed in late January 2025.

Edit: Here is a point of contact email for Sheldon whom has been there for many years. sheldon@extremecolorsgreenville.com

For future reference here:

If PCD contacts you/dealer to confirm dates, and you decline all offered dates, they route the car to the dealer at no cost.

If you (or the dealer) confirm a PCD date, the car is routed to the PCD post production. If you need to cancel after confirming the date (unless, maybe, it's like, fairly immediately after) you would be responsible for shipping costs from the PCD to the dealer.

Thanks for the information Scott. That is how I thought it worked but then starting seeing posts saying there was a charge no matter what.
