I'm in Chicago. Yesterday sucked. Ran my snow blower last night so I wouldn't have to do anything this morning before work. It was cold and windy, so even after clearing the driveway the wind didn't do me any favors. Wish I had a heated driveway.
Chicago sucks in the winter. I mean sucks sweaty herpes balls.

When I worked for a Chicago based company we had a meeting in January and the raw temp was -16F with the windchill being -34. I just killed all senses. I went into the hotel and didn't come out until the meeting was over. Sucks. Balls.

I'll take 100 degree weather with 75% humidity over that at any time!! :thumbdown

I went to Texas in 2009. My aunt lives in fort worth. She was trying to have us move there. We looked at a few model homes, and I remember walking into this really big house with a theater room and a pool. It was pretty damn cheap compared to house prices here.

The current house I live in we got built-in 2015. 5-bed room 4 bath 4,000 square foot and 3 car garage. I think after builders fees and option we were in the mid $400K. Property tax is close to $14k and all of it goes to the high school. It's not like kids that come out of that high school become scientists, etc. Nobody from our family goes to the high school anymore so we might sell the house. Not 100% sure yet

Now our model(The Emerson) starts at almost $500k

You know wth $400k can buy in texas

That's a thing [heated driveway]?
Absolutely! I've heard a few examples in residential applications, but every car wash in areas where it frequently goes below freezing has heated aprons on their entrances/exits to prevent wet cars from making skating rinks.....

cold af here in missouri. its gonna get into the single digits and negatives next week. Got the GT3 tires aired up to 50psi and sitting on a tender ;( and the f80 gets no traction.

Makes me want to get back to an awd platform or get an EV for winter time. buuuut its only really 1-2 months out of the year its consistently below freezing.

I'm thinking if I should put my car on a battery tender?

One cold (or hot) morning after you discover the i3/i8 programmed departure time feature and plop your butt in a perfectly-conditioned 72F car, and I *guarantee* that you will be driving a BMW EV every single day.

In all seriousness, I don't even have a frost/ice scraper in my i3 because of the automagic pre-conditioning.....

Right now it is -22 C without the windchill and expected to cool off overnight. We are going through a cold period for about a week.

This.

And I keep all of my cars on tenders. It just makes sense.

Should I keep it on the tender at all times or take it off the tender ones the battery is fully charged?

The idea of a tender is to keep the battery charged at all times.

I have gone through several of them on my car in the racecar hauler. Nothing like going out to pull the car out in the spring and find that the tender failed and the battery...and OBD readiness...are stone dead.

I bought one of these (NOCO GENIUS2D on-board charger) on Black Friday sale for $29, but haven't had a chance to install it yet:

That looks like a nice item. I like the design aesthetic and the permanent installation.

I have a few of these:

If it's smart, you can leave it there all the time.

The gripe that I have with every "smart" charger that I've ever owned or used is that they will not charge a battery that's 100% dead. If it doesn't read voltage from the battery when it is initially connected, the logic refuses to turn on the charge voltage for safety reasons.

I have an old 1970's lump of a transformer-based 5/10A charger in our garage, and it seems to get more use than all of our "smart" chargers combined just from resurrecting batteries from the dead just so the "smart" chargers can take over.....
