d35p3rad0 wrote I’d like to share an issue I’ve encountered with my BMW X5, and I’m hoping someone with similar experience can offer insight or advice.
The vehicle was originally purchased in the United States and imported to Azerbaijan. No regional coding or software modifications have been made — everything remains in its original U.S. configuration. For over a year, ConnectedDrive functioned flawlessly in Azerbaijan. The car consistently communicated with the U.S. backend servers, all services were online, and everything worked as expected.
However, as of July 23, 2025, the MyBMW app stopped receiving updates. The last successful data sync was on that exact date. Interestingly, ISTA still shows that the embedded SIM is active, in roaming, and connected. No faults are reported — it appears the car is technically still online, but no data is being exchanged with the servers.
After reading several forum discussions, I came across a potential solution: replacing the U.S. telematics control unit (TCU) with a European one. Apparently, this could allow the car to switch over to European BMW backend servers, which are functioning properly. However, one major concern remains — the vehicle’s VIN is American, and from what I understand, U.S.-market cars cannot be added to the European ConnectedDrive infrastructure unless BMW’s global backend team explicitly enables it.
Has anyone actually gone through this process successfully? Is there any confirmed workaround for restoring ConnectedDrive functionality without replacing the TCU or changing the regional coding? Any advice would [...]
Hey everyone in Germany with US SPEC Beemers, I think we all are FINALLY getting the telemetry out cars have been missing!! Yesterday while driving to work in my U11/X1 M35 my dash blinked out for a second but after a moment when it came back on I noticed the globe did NOT have the slash through it. On a hunch I pressed the dedicated NAV icon and it loaded the map (not from my phone)!! When I got to work I had FULL SIGNAL and DOWNLOAD capability. I told a nice lady I work near about it and she was happy for me but kinda disappointed she didn’t have it on her new X5.
BUT THAT NIGHT hers finally worked too!!
For reference we both have late 2025/early 2026 models with IDRIVE 9 and 8.5 respectively we got them about 4-6 weeks part. So there is hope out there and BMW CANT HIDE BEHIND BS REASONS ANYMORE!
