Hey Everyone. Has anyone tried the Pirelli P Zero PZ5 in 275/40/R22 front and 315/35/R22 rear on an X5 M60i?

I have been hearing that the new PZ5 performs noticeably better than the PZ4 and is also comparable to the Michelin PS4S and PS5S. I wanted to check if anyone has already had a chance to run the PZ5 and share their experience.

It also looks like the PZ5 is currently out of stock everywhere, so I am curious if anyone has been able to get their hands on a set yet.

Thanks.

godofwar4's user avatargodofwar4 There are a number of posts earlier in this thread that may answer your question. The BMW recommended sizes are F: 275/35 and R: 315/30 Personally I'd caution you to be concerned about warranty claims if you run out of spec tires and have transfer case issues.

This is my concern as well.

It is my understanding that the transfer case worries are more due to a difference in size between the front and rear; and not a difference in size overall.

For example: the stock 275/35/22 and 315/30/22 have a size difference of 0.47% at 29.36 and 29.4 inches diameter respectively.

The common "up-size" on here is 275/40/22 and 315/35/22 which have a size difference of 0.0% as both are exactly 30.7".

It seems that the latter is actually "better" for your transfer case; alas, BMW states that anything <1% difference is acceptable.

Just replaced the P Zero summer tires that came with my 2025 X5 (black 742M wheels) with taller Arroyo Grand Sport A/S, and so far I love them. Much better ride quality, than the Pirellis, but feel not as sporty and light as the summer tires.

How has your experience been so far? Could you please share? Don’t see a lot of reviews. Attractive price tho!

I've had zero issues, ride quality is obviously better than the smaller Summer tires, and I don't have to worry about rotating them with the changing seasons. I even took it out when we had 12" of snow last month and it performed well. I will be buying again.

I am lowered and have the m pro suspension, so I will be close to rubbing.
Did you end up upsizing? I put my 275/40 and 315/35 tires on today but also considering lowering.

I did not. Got the PSAS4 in the OEM size.

I need more info on this setup. I thought 818s came in 21/22, looks like you have 22s up front.

Is it a square setup?

Here are +1 aspect ratio and width 22s on an X6, the exact spec tires I'll be going with(285/40/22 & 325/35/22). Looks great and the sidewall doesn't appear that much taller.

Sorry, that is not my vehicle so I don't have the wheel specs, only tire specs. They may be OEM 818s or knock offs, not sure.

I like the idea, but even though the new tire specs 275/40/22 and 315/35/22 are both ~30.7” (0.0% difference) I beleive BMW intentionally uses a slight stagger (~0.5–1%) on the original 275/35/22 and 315/30/22 oem tire specs having the rear tire slightly smaller and spins faster, xDrive is calibrated around that. I would assume this would create increased wear and potential issues to transfer case especially after reading the BMW bulletin about transfer case failure included mismatched tires or tread being an issue. This has me hesitant.

Has anyone upsized and experienced any issues with the transfer case or any other parts? I am about to make the decision on upsizing but I don't want any issues.

Changed mine about 8 months ago and have no issues with them.

Bump this thread to get anymore responses or issues to upsizing.

Short answer; yes :thumsup:they work without issues with general maintenance (fluid changes).

If issues do come up, BMWNA is starting to get VERY strict about warranty replacements or even fluid change coverage. Tires have to match the door; yes taller tires are used on the X7, and it utilizes the same transfer case, but they can deny you at any moment.

Out side of warranty coverage, yes it creates more wear but no more than the X7s do from factory. Running taller tires or not, the design of the transfer case (used across multiple models) needs its fluid changed every 20-30,000 miles... the current service schedule for 2026's reflects that now. :bellyroll

You really think taller tires cause more TC wear, even if the circumference is bang on between front and rear?

Technically you're not wrong, and going to the x7 sizing you're 100% same diameter vs x5 stock 22" which is slightly different.

Hypothetically can you feel the difference in up sizing? yes, but at the same time the x5 is lighter and drivetrain parts are 1:1 between the x5 & x7 so the transfer case will have a easier life in the x5 utilizing x7 sized tires; there is no question to that. Can the x5 also spin a taller 31" tire, yes it can but the main point is warranty becomes a fine line.....

Long story short, dealer feedback has always been just make sure you have the factory specs on the car when you have a warranty claim. :slap:

I am assuming the x5 and x6 would be the same? I have both, but upsizing my tires is for my 2025 x6 M60i.

Copy - I think if you're in warranty period the choice is clear, follow the door jam. I'm well out of warranty so upsizing here I come

Just installed Continental DWS 6 + tires (upsized) from OEM to 275-40-22 and 315-35-22 on my 2025 X6 M60i. I also have H&R spacers 12mm front and 15mm rear. No rubbing at full turn and the look is so much better. As is the ride. Very happy how it came out.
