I am a week 49 as well but have not heard anything about getting bumped up to week 44. I know the 45e builds are scheduled either for week 44 (early October allocation release) or week 49 (allocations released this Tuesday) so looks like you were bumped to the earlier build slot...

I can now officially confirm, 10/12 is the Covid Spec G05 deletion. The CUTOFF date is as follows:
G05 on this schedule did not get deletion: 10/11 = Production Begins 10/23 = Final Assembly G05 on this schedule got deletion: 10/12 = Production Begins Big picture - All Week 44+ builds are deletions. Evidence: 1. Dealer triple checked my final build sheet. No $500 credit, no disclosure to sign, no ZUY 6UY build codes 2. Mygarage does not show deletion of backup assist for my ZPK equipped car.

This is what I was able to find based off the bill proposed yesterday. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/e...d-back-better/ "Existing requirements for this boost from the current $7,500 credit for qualifying EVs breaks down in a few ways: The base credit is still $7,500, but an additional $2,500 comes into play if an automaker builds the EV in America. The government would green light the remaining $2,500 if the car in question comes from a factory with a union workforce." Based off this it would be 10k as the plant in S.C. isn't unionized. True. Plus I don't have to share my husband's car for 3 weeks between the end of my lease and the original expected delivery. |

Not sure it's possible, but I'm ready to buy and just put in an order on Monday this week with expectation of a Dec/Jan delivery. Any interest in exploring some sort of swap?

Called the dealership this morning and they confirmed the news. 10/12 appears to be the last production day with the touchscreen and it looks like I was a week late with a 10/18 production. Still trying to decide what to do here.
I went in to play around with the dial. Not exactly ideal and have been using a touchscreen in a Kia for a while. How hard was the adjustment to learn the dial? I seemed to be fumbling all over the place. If someone ends up making a touchscreen in the future, would this new software being developed affect the replacement screen? I don't want to be permanently locked out of ever having a touch screen. I had planned on taking delivery in Spartanburg but was told that even that is backed up until January. Anyone else hearing the same? |

I drive controller- TBH, This touchscreen deletion has been blown out of proportion. Seeing that you likely don't come from BMW, I can provide insight. Idrive controller and more importantly the software is much more intuitive than the setup back in 2007 when it was first introduced. Just to give you an idea, I used three of the four major iterations of iDrive. 2008 (CCC), 2012 (CIC), and 2014 (NBT). Ever since CIC when they provide a shortcut buttons, and proper haptic feedback, it will probably only take you about a few months to be proficient. I would say today, I can swap screens probably just as fast via knob and buttons than if it was a touch screen. Memory of where settings pages are nested within the catalog is more important. But the shortcut buttons are key. It's kind of ironic for me since I was able to squeeze by and get the touchscreen, probably in the first month I would even forget about using the touch screen as I am more comfortable with the knob. For example if you wanted to go to the map, there is a shortcut button directly to the map. If you were to use touch screen, you would have to scroll to the map, unless the map is defaulted on the main menu. Also a major feature is that the "radio" buttons can be programmed as shortcut idrive shortcut screens or functions. Regarding how retrofit typically works for these units. It is a complete teardown. The screen along with the processor unit will have to come out. And a complete unit will be replaced. Good news is because the screen is exactly the same size, no additional trim will need to be purchased to make it fit. And then there's coding. Aftermarket providers make it very easy to do this remotely. If you're handy, You're expected to physically make the swap. Then coding is handled remotely by the service. Typically it works and is most cost-effective if you're willing to physically do the swap and somewhat proficient around plugging some stuff in. Otherwise you're going to have to pay a local shop who needs a demonstrate proficiency in the full process. Expect all in about $2,000, could be cheaper if you provide a core return.

My SA also confirmed mine will be removed (Week 46) but I think I will still take delivery. I don’t think I will be able to go to another brand and get the same level of equipment (at least for what hasn’t been cut at this point) and performance without spending a lot more. And I know from recent experience that the Audi SQ8 is way worse in terms of delivery timeline. I had looked at an SQ8 over the Summer and was told in August an order placed then would arrive by end of 2021, but then in September that same order was wasn’t going to be delivered until late-spring 2022. I should have just ordered the X6 right then and there instead of waiting 2 more months! But I can only imagine what the situation is with Audi now and have to think that in addition to the delay they are now cutting features as well.
And I do agree that it is a big risk by BMW to pull the touch screen off so many models at one time, but as Flying Ace mentioned this new version of the CoVID spec may not be as big a deal (at least for me) but it does feel like the rug is being pulled out from under us when such a basic component of a car that costs $100K is removed. |

After thinking for a long time, decided that I might just lease it and turn it in after a while. If I can’t get the options I wanted, doesn’t make it special enough for me to buy it for long term.

I'm right with you. I have a 45e scheduled for delivery around the third week of November, and with the loss of the touchscreen, I'm seriously considering leasing instead of purchasing. I was going to keep this car six years (plus or minus a year), but knowing I had a COVID-spec car would always irk me. This way I can turn it in in 2024 and, if I've loved my first BMW, buy an LCI 45e (or whatever they call it then).

You'd rather buy, then sell in 12-months and make money.
