New to the forum, but I've been lurking since I made the decision to get the 45e. I received word today that my individual color was officially accepted so I figured I'd post about my experience.

This is my first car purchase and it's about time because I've driven my 2005 Honda Accord into the ground. I knew I wanted to get something with all the bells and whistles as well as a unique color that would stand out. It took me a lot of digging through the forums but I was stuck deciding between Mora Metallic, Atlantis Metallic and Ametrin Metallic. I felt like the Ametrin would be a perfect middle ground between flashy and classy and attempted to place an order with black vernasca and Ash Grey-Silver trim...

After telling my CA what I wanted I spent about a week hounding my CA because no one sent over the link to pay the deposit. I also had a CA from another dealership try to "show me an offer and I'll beat it" then turn around and say they were asking for $5k over MSRP and accused my primary CA of idea lying to me about having an allocation. After ~4 days I was told by my CA that those options weren't available for the 45e in the US and I would have to go in a different direction.

Atlantis was the color that I settled on, but since I've never seen it in person and the photos are all over the place in terms of what the true color might look like. Weirdly enough over the next two days while driving home from work I managed to see 2 different BMWs in a color that I'm pretty sure was Atlantis Metallic, but with the Snapper Rocks and LBBs out there who really knows. I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it, but I'm just really excited to see it in person and in all of its color-shifting glory.

Timeline:
Order Placed - 11/16
Allocation/PN received and deposit paid - 11/22
Individual Color accepted - 12/1

As of yesterday, my CA reported that the vehicle will go into production next week, but when I call BMW Genius, they still don't have a build week for the PN I have.

Black Vernasca Leather (I keep wanting to text my CA and change it to beige but I'm worried about spills and stains)

740m's (which will definitely get dipped to gloss black)

I'm on the fence about PPF and ceramic right now, but considering getting the calipers painted a neon green/yellow. Also undecided on tinting, it looks like a lot of pictures of recently delivered X5s have a pretty decent tint already, so I'll make that decision once I finally have it in my possession.

Good luck to everyone out there waiting for allocations and anxiously refreshing MyBMW waiting for something to change on the screen. I'm right there with ya!

Atlantis Blue, LBB and Snapper is a very loud. Atlantis and LBB are colors reserved for M cars, are you certain you'll be approved for this on a 45e? BMW has final say on M colors to be used on non-M cars, so don't pin your hopes that it'll happen.

IMO, I would go with Ametrin. You have a very high likelihood of getting approval as it's pre-approved optional colors on the G05 already, just not the 45e trim. Plus I love Ametrin, I wish it was a optional color to pick on a 45e build without going through Individual, bc I would have picked it over Phytonic blue.

Snapper is a non-M color, so you likely will have a good chance of approval on it too.

The Atlantis color is definitely loud, but I think if I'm going to pay the extra cash for an individual color some loudness is okay As of right now because I am getting the M Sport package the Atlantis is approved and heading to production hopefully soon.

I attempted to order the Ametrin (it would have cost $1950 instead of $5k) but BMWUSA denied my request for that build and said that color is only reserved for the 50i model of the X5 in the US.

An unfortunate update, so last week I was told by my CA that the individual color would only add two weeks to the build time, and it would be going into production this week (Despite myBMW only listing "order received" on the tracking website). Just got off the phone with BMW Genius who state that I have been bumped to Week 14 for production. Not sure if I should contact my CA about this, search for a different allocation, or just wait until the 2023 model starts being produced.

That is fairly normal for Individual colors. Looking for another allocation will likely get it pushed further back. They try and group like colors and/or handle them when it has the least impact on the regular production. You just have to sit and wait it out.

Atlantis is a pre-approved Individual paint for the X5 and only pre-approved paints can be ordered.

Yeah, I’m still waiting for confirmation from my CA but if he could grab an early allocation for the 2023 X5 it might be worth waiting 7 instead of 4 months.

Thanks! This thread is what helped me decide on the Atlantis metallic color, but the picture you included is what made me worried about the color. It looks so much like Long Beach blue instead of the teal most people say the Atlantis truly is.

I cancelled my order. My CA finally confirmed that it would not be done until likely May. He said that it was because an individual color (not just Atlantis) was chosen it added the 14 weeks to the build time, otherwise, it would have gone into production this week per their system. I think with this omicron COVID variant a car delivered in May will be affected by more supply chain shortages. Thanks for the input everyone! Hopefully, I'll get some more reassuring news this summer about the MY 2023.

At least you will get to see what it looks like since the dealer has to take that order. Unless something recently changed an Individual order can't be cancelled once in the system. At least you are in CA and get your deposit, if any, back.

I was under the impression that anything can be changed as long as it's not in "begin production phase". I'm hoping some lucky duck on the waitlist gets this allocation and a speedy delivery without the individual paint color.

Either way, you're correct I do get my deposit back.

In addition to that, any time an Individual item is ordered then the order is locked as soon as it is received. This could be paint, certain leathers, etc.

Edit: I should clarify that it may not be as soon as it is entered but rather a Block Date is given when an Individual item is ordered. That date will generally be shortly after the order is received.

With the increase in gas prices and continued item deletions from BMW I decided to pull the trigger on a MY 2022 X5. I got my order in days before they stopped accepting individual colors in March. As you can see in this thread this has been an extremely long journey with a few hiccups (some self inflicted) along the way. I am happy to report my vehicle has arrived at the dealership and I’m going to pick it up next weekend!!

The constant looks and thumbs up, you see people trying to be sneaky and take a picture, and the nonstop comments about how beautiful it is.

Thanks TurtleBoy! You actually got me in contact with a CA who was able to place the order before individual requests closed for MY22 so I'm grateful for your presence on this forum and the great advice have provided to me and others.
