Resurrecting this old comment/question - I didn't see an answer in the subsequent posts....
I've got gesture control and my V1Gen2 DID have false laser warnings. I had to turn off my laser option (via V1 app on iPhone).

I know that this is NOT an ideal solution. I did want to keep my gesture control enabled so that was the choice I made.

Has anyone figured out the wiring so that the radar does not stay on for like ~5mins after car is shut off?

For people that has x45e, do you see significant battery drain if radar is left on for the 5 mins? This is my deciding factor if I want to get a radar for my x45e.

Removing the plastic trim was not trouble at all. Just open at the bottom side first in the middle by using a credit card or flat screw driver. Again slowly at the top middle above mirror holding pivot. They should come apart with little bit of wiggling.

Wire tap is done per the picture attached (4015 harness red wire to bottom mirror harness red wire at right end; black wire to brown wire on left hand side of mirror harness). It powers off with in 5 mins of locking the car, at the same time as the glass control knob lights off. Using the 2 zip ties provided, tied the harness way close in the beginning where they are inserted in so that hooked in wires won't come loose , another at the top trim end point, tied to 2 other harnesses so no one pull it out.

This is a great thread! Warm weather is here in NJ so took the time to do the mirror tap this morning. I was done in less than 10 mins. Thank you!

Hi all, just wired my Escort Max II to the mirror. I'm getting anywhere from 13.3Volts to 14.7 volts according to Escort display. Any issues with this?

In my Raptor, same detector using the cig lighter, get 12.3volts.

Thanks!

Mark this thread. Thanks for all the descriptions.

Installed mirror tap radio detector and hard wired dash cam. Thanks to everyone.

I ended up doing a hard wire to the fuse box located under the dash by the glove box.
What mirror mount is that?

Wanted to bump this....tried this today on my X5M and broke a couple small clips on the trim piece that separates into two pieces. Good thing is it appears that part is only $25 and you get BOTH sides for that. In other words, not a huge deal if you break it.

In other "accidents while doing this" FYIs, I just had a windshield replacement, and they of course didn't reinstall the mirror taps in the process. When doing it on my own, I learned, never rotate the mirror counterclockwise when the trim pieces are off - it'll literally rotate off the clip mounts and pop off entirely. Luckily, I had just wrapped the wiring harnesses in cloth tape and they didn't do any damage in the fall to the dash, but be careful!

Thanks for the thread guys. Got my pony tail installed today for my Radar detector. This is the third car doing it, it’s getting a bit short since I cut it each time rather than rcersing the install ;-)
I used about 1/2” cut from paper clips soldered to the end of the wires to insert into the harness. That harness is a “mimi” and would have been much easier one size up.

Thank you for the detailed instructions guys. I had done this before with my previous car, but it had been a few years and needed a refresher on the disassembly and mirror tap for my Uniden R3. I used this one as the one from my previous car was too small (needed a new Blendmount as well, BNR-3032):

Anyone tap the fuse box under glove bax on a 2023 (or earlier) X5?

I need to do that to a switched fuse as I use a smart cord so not using the mirror tap/mount.
I could not (yet) find a switched fuse there so have to unplug detector each time.

I followed the wiring recommendation but my detector does not seem to shut off after 5+ minutes. Hmm

MaKe sure you are not keeping the key near by so it can sleep.

Thanks to all for the info here. Hoping the wiring isn't too different on the '24 - hopefully I'll be able to let you all know in a few weeks after taking delivery.

I wired my 24 with the black wire tapped into the left wire on the plug and the red wire tapped into the right wire and the V1 shuts off after 5 minutes.

I completed the mirror tap install on my 2024 X5, was same setup as my 2020. I attached some photos but again same process as before so can refer back to earlier posts if needed.
