Hello. My i5 g60 has never been able to connect in the last six months. (District of Warsaw, Krakow, Zakopane).
Although it connects perfectly to the mybmw app, all remote services work.
Hello!
I have thecar in the app already, it is asking me to enter the code from the car now - i presume i will not be able to get the code? As in you probably got thr code when it was still working (more than 6mo ths ago)

Thank you

You need to write to bmw connected drive usa, and inform that you have become the new owner of the car. You will need to attach documents confirming ownership. after which they will disconnect the old owner and attach the car to the bmw ID of the new owner. This must be a bmw ID created on the American website (non-European), and the application must be installed from the American app store or android store.

I’m sorry for so many questions, but do I still need to do that if I have created american account and have the car in the app already showing the mileage/fuel reserve (it is now asking to enter a code from the actual car to enable full features)
If that is the case - do documents have to be translated or an invoice would suffice with vin code on it?

Thank you

You don't need to contact anyone. Simply infotainment reset, that deletes old user. Get connected, create your bmw usa account, download us version of the app and connect them. If you don't get connection, then you don't get one. Mostly it's due to incompatible frequencies, as I have compared EU vs US modules before. If car doesn't connect then it won't. BMW restricted to only several countries where US troops are based. Nothing to do here at this point. Can try to travel somewhere, but you don't need to connect your app, it won't give you anything, it will be useless prop. Only worth to connect the car to the internet once to get all the app's downloaded, but basically they don't do anything useful anyway. carplay/android auto works without internet.

I’d like to share an issue I’ve encountered with my BMW X5, and I’m hoping someone with similar experience can offer insight or advice.

The vehicle was originally purchased in the United States and imported to Azerbaijan. No regional coding or software modifications have been made — everything remains in its original U.S. configuration. For over a year, ConnectedDrive functioned flawlessly in Azerbaijan. The car consistently communicated with the U.S. backend servers, all services were online, and everything worked as expected.

However, as of July 23, 2025, the MyBMW app stopped receiving updates. The last successful data sync was on that exact date. Interestingly, ISTA still shows that the embedded SIM is active, in roaming, and connected. No faults are reported — it appears the car is technically still online, but no data is being exchanged with the servers.

After reading several forum discussions, I came across a potential solution: replacing the U.S. telematics control unit (TCU) with a European one. Apparently, this could allow the car to switch over to European BMW backend servers, which are functioning properly. However, one major concern remains — the vehicle’s VIN is American, and from what I understand, U.S.-market cars cannot be added to the European ConnectedDrive infrastructure unless BMW’s global backend team explicitly enables it.

Has anyone actually gone through this process successfully? Is there any confirmed workaround for restoring ConnectedDrive functionality without replacing the TCU or changing the regional coding? Any advice would [...]
Hey everyone in Germany with US SPEC Beemers, I think we all are FINALLY getting the telemetry out cars have been missing!! Yesterday while driving to work in my U11/X1 M35 my dash blinked out for a second but after a moment when it came back on I noticed the globe did NOT have the slash through it. On a hunch I pressed the dedicated NAV icon and it loaded the map (not from my phone)!! When I got to work I had FULL SIGNAL and DOWNLOAD capability. I told a nice lady I work near about it and she was happy for me but kinda disappointed she didn’t have it on her new X5.
BUT THAT NIGHT hers finally worked too!!

For reference we both have late 2025/early 2026 models with IDRIVE 9 and 8.5 respectively we got them about 4-6 weeks part. So there is hope out there and BMW CANT HIDE BEHIND BS REASONS ANYMORE!

Hopefully they’ll fix it for whole Europe, but I kind of doubt. I’ve been in communication with BMW and forwarded around different departments and they just don’t care and use the same template saying politely that they are not even looking at it.

Once again, they won't do anything. Why would they? BMW wants you to buy expensive cars in EU, not cheap from US. Secondly it's roaming, so it's more expensive for them to maintain the connection. Thirdly I can confirm it still doesn't work in Germany, at least in 99% parts of the country, since TCB frequency missmatch.

One month ago I went from Poland to Bautzen in Germany to have my starter motor replaced. After crossing the border Connected Drive Services stopped working, but after maybe 30 minutes they resumed functioning (ie. Weather was updated, Spotify was playing).

I was 90% sure that the connectivity cannot be achieved by physically taking out the soldered eSim from the TCB/ATM and introducing a physical plastic sim with data package. I tried that method and failed.

This is an update for anyone who is brainstorming to do so.
