Ah FML I bought the passive version! That is a return then.
Tech replied instantly to my email.

Edit: I ordered the active sub. And the Harness for 676 with no LOC per support. BBL
Let me know how it goes

Will do. I fully understand now how to install everything. I unplugged the RAM just for practice :D I got the active sub today from Amazon. Harness won't be here till Thursday. I hate USPS Ground Advantage!
Got some OFC wire, copper lugs, and some connectors coming. This is so easy compared to other sub I have done.

The harness came early. All I need is my Amazon parts like power wires and things.
I guess there are 2 white plugs that stay unplugged. I contacted them just to sure.

EDIT: This is plugged into the wrong plug. After plugging it into the correct plug, plug the last two together.

I had to make my own harness to interface to the subs high level inputs from the tech harness.
UPS was delayed! Only missing the lugs for the 8 gauge power wires.

FML Still waiting on the copper lug things from UPS :mad0259: 99.99999% done.
Just need power

I bought an 8mm fine thread wingnut and washere from Ace Hardware. Nice and tight fit. Didn't have to cut that threaded rod.

Looking good. You can prob pick some up at Best Buy or auto zone. Maybe harbor freight?

Won't turn on. Do I need the blue remote wire? I don't know what to connect it to.

Yes. The blue remote wire needs a signal for the amp in the speaker to switch on

Got it powered and green light is on. No music comes out. If I press the phase button on the remote and turn up the gain, there is a really loud bass hum.
I was so careful to maintain speaker phase when I made my harness. Either mine is bad or the Tech harness is.
I have speaker level to line level converter with remote turn on wire I could try. If that don't work, something is wrong with the Technic. They don't answer emails anymore.

I have been thinking about do this exact setup. I was going to replace the fronts with Focal leave the under seat subs and add the CV. How does it sound?

Leave the fronts. Leave them all. This sub makes it sound like you upgraded every frieakin' speaker!!! The bass this put out is just incredible! It's the only upgrade you need! Get one now! You will be blown away! Take it from a guitar player audiophile.

My only problem I had was with the harness. Went to a stereo shop. He plugged in those 2 extra plugs. And my harness was in the wrong plug. I was afraid to plug in those 2 plugs. Technic does not respond to emails.
I don't need a blue wire! It detects a signal and turns off and on as needed. You can hear a thump when it come on.

Here is the harness correctly attached for a HiFi (Option 676). Yours may be different.

Depending on music styles, sub do require adjusting. This control is amazing! Even matches the red interior button lights. Mine is not mounted.

So it looks like the Rockville V2 Ghost, Cerwin Vega, and the JBL are all the same units. Just a slightly different metal shell. Rebadged with the same specs.
AmIRight?
That would make the Rockville the best choice since it's only 149.95
They probably all sound the same.
They may sound better using the high level inputs instead of the line level. I saw a review somewhere that said that.

Does this sub/spare work with an actual spare tire stored there? All photos are shown w/o spare tire.

Awesome. Glad u got it figured out! I think the Rockville and CV are pretty similar. The JBL is larger (taller) so I think it’s definitely different - I’d hope so for the price premium

It’s designed to fit within a full sized spare. Can’t guarantee fitment for this vehicle but in theory it should work.

I got a response for TechnicPNP. It just said FYI and there was a pdf.
I asked what the other plugs were for.
This harness if only for X5's that have HiFi (Option 676)

Also, I could not get that harness off after it was installed.
It is that female black plug on the harness that the OEM RAM plug plugs into.

The black plug in the middle of this pic.
Those sub output wire are connected to the wrong plug

Diirek, thanks for sharing this install and details. I have been following your thread for a while and I think this will be my next project. I am not much of a basshead and while HK sounds mostly fine, at times I have felt the need for a little added lower end so hopefully this sub, after breaking will suffice. My only condition, that I will check before installing is that the sub should fit inside the donut spare since I have one.

Thinking of going with Rockville V2 to keep costs down. I have a couple of questions.

1. Does the harness provide power to the sub?
2. Connectivity to sub with the sub harness looks easy enough but would you be able to show how you mated the harnesses together?
3.Did you go with low level inputs?
4. Any other tips or gotchas to watch out for?

Thanks!
