I must have missed something - was McLaren found to have done something illegal? If they have, I can't find any references in the news.

There are references to "devices fitted to several cars for the sole purpose of heating the skids... every team uses the concept to some extent" and "FIA ordered their removal before Q1":

https://www.f1-fansite.com/f1-news/fia-launches-investigation-into-post-brazil-gp-skid-plate-controversy/#:~:text=When%20the%20car%20is%20%22scattering,F1%20Rumours

So, what evidence do you have that McLaren (or other teams) didn't comply with FIA directive and Lando's car was somehow illegal?

Or would be impacted and retroactively DQ-ed the most?
RedBull did "magically" rediscover "form" in the second half of the season, out of nowhere, didn't they?
:confused2

I know many root for Maxipad on this forum, but common dudes, sharing facts is more fun that speculations!

Everything that you need to know .
McLaren lowered the car too much that's why McLaren had a big performance advantage in corner balance , downforce , grip and top speed (!)
McLaren cheated. But still lost to MAX...

He was just trying to close the gap.

Finally got to watch the race last night about 8PM est. Charlie was flying there for a bit. Too bad he qualified so poorly.

Wow, just watched the race and I'm catching up now. Figured the WDC was over and now it's completely on again between 3 drivers. Fantastic!! :D
The gift that keeps on giving.

If Max Verstappen quits F1, we'll all realize what a formidably skilled race driver he was, methodical and ruthless on track, how he managed to pull many rabbits out of hats (while sometimes he preferred simply to wear them).

I agree - BUT, for this to really help Oscar he has to start beating Max, while Lando doesn’t have to. I think that’s still a better place for Lando than Oscar, beyond the fact that the gap between the McLaren’s has shrunk.

Which means despite his terrible performance in Vegas, Oscar remains within 24 points of Lando instead of 30 points.

Of course he shares that privilege with Max, but Oscar has very little pressure. He is not expected to win anymore. Lando is being hunted. Max is expected to win (though Max doesn't care about pressure, he will show up and just do his thing when it matters).

Now whether Oscar can find is baby faced assassin form remains to be seen, but this weekend has been a very good weekend for Oscar. All cock ups, no responsibility.

biggest loser, Lando. we all thought he had it all wrapped up after his P2.

I still don't think Oscar has it in him after the terrible run, but this weekend was massive for all of the 3

why McLaren keeps trying to learn from Ferrari I don't know, but they are doing their best to copy the Italians
What would be poetic justice is to see Mclaren get both cars DSQd in the final race to lose the WDC. They deserve that...
Pia doesnt have it in him I dont think. As I've said many times...when their car is DOMINANT he does well a decent amount of the time, but when he needs to be the difference maker, he simply doesnt have it. Also mentioned, he had more non point scoring finishes in one year than Max has his entire career so far. Same with Nor.
Pressure and composure will likely prevail here. If Nor and Pia end up qualifying 6,7,8 or anywhere near there it's a risky spot going into T1.
The thing for Max is, he has nothing to lose and he will get his elbows out more now than ever.

The opening move by Norris was bold: "Eat this, champ: take evasive action or your WDC bid ends before T1 with a 'first lap racing incident' DNF."

The composure by Verstappen was bolder: "Not taking the bait – you got no idea who you're dealing with."

No wonder they panicked realising the sensors beeped but it was too late, there's also the question about the how much fuel was left as that was not checked with the plank DSQ.
With 2 races and 1 sprint to go..

Who will be the 2025 F1 World Champion ?

In the comments: "In Vegas you can gamble but the house always wins."

Unlike all other teams, McLaren flirted with a DSQ setup to attempt to knock Verstappen out of the WDC title bid. It backfired. And even with their risky setup, they were still owned by Verstappen.

In principle, McLaren will get the 2025 WDC title, but at least the race gods will give them a good run for their money.

Won't happen, lightning can strike twice easily in F1. You mentioned when will 4 and 81 cars get new PU's, it hasn't happened and the longer they leave it the risk of DNF through malfunction or sliding down the grid increases. You have to ask if can they afford a 10 place drop with a new PU while MAX still has a plenty of horses PU.

Lando needs 35 points to win the 2025 WDC if Max ( or Oscar….but probably Max ;) ) wins every race and sprint from here on out and scores the maximum 58. That equates to finishing 3rd in each GP race and 4th in the sprint or combinations thereof. I think the overall odds are still in favor of Lando here. Looking over the season Lando’s got 3rd or higher in almost 80% of all 22 races so far and 60% of the 5 sprints. Not perfect, but the chances of Lando beating those numbers look not bad. If he DNF’s one of the two GP’s then it’s Max’s for the taking.

Too many permutations and combinations of results here, but Lando’s still got a reasonable shot.

The big question now is if NOR and/or PIA will be having fresh PU's at this late stage. Actually it's a good one for the bookies.

Lando is on the edge and desperate, despite showing that everything is under control when he's out of the car.

As of this morning, the betting houses still have Norris as the favorite to win the WDC.

did Ferrari forget to tell him that Kimi has a 5s penalty and he needed to finish 0.19s faster to jump Kimi?
or was the Ferrari slower than the Merc on 50 lap tires!

2 races + sprint, everyone has a good shot. not sure who will win ... finishing 3rd x3 is not a given thanks to the Papaya Corps, though it's easier than needing to finish first x3 but the RB stable under Mekies is a machine
