The red wire goes to the red/green wire.
Black wire goes to brown/black wire.
Thumbs wroteThe photos in that thread are not photos of the mirror housing for the 2020 G05 X5. They look like photos of the mirror housing that was in my 2016 X5 and the internal plugs and wires in the 2020 G05 X5 are completely different that what is shown in the pictures.
Did you get it sorted out yet?
Does anyone know where to find a hot wire that turns off immediately, and not on a delay? Any in the overhead console / switch panel for the roof and map lights?

JerryW235 wroteThe same is true when you direct wire to the fuse box to switched fuse socket. My radar detector AND my dash cam not only stay on for a few minutes after you have left and locked the car but here is something else you may not know: If you use the BMW Connected app to “ping” your vehicle (ie lock doors, flash lights, horn, remote 3D view, etc.) this powers up all the devices for a few minutes. Hence, if I use the Connected app to do one of these actions, my radar detector turns on and my dash cam front and rear also turn on and start recording for a few minutes or so. Anytime anything happens that causes anything in your car to activate, so will these devices.I just did a detector install on a 2019 X5, and used the red/green for + and the black/brown for the -. It works, the only issue is the detector stays on for about 5 minutes after shutting the engine off and closing the door. It's the same whether the key fob is left in the car, the car is locked with the fob, the car is turned "off" via idrive or the Volume control. It seems to be the same amount of time that the ambient lighting stays on. The car settings are set to turn stuff off when the engine is off, and the door is opened.

If you want your radar detector to shut off you can pull the plug from the side of it and this will keep it from coming on remotely also.
I like the remote activation of my dash cam as I do not have it set for parking mode as I did not want the potential battery drain issues.
Is the cable the factory cable?
Are the grommets/o-rings at the mirror something you found locally?
I'm guessing you ran the wire across the top of the windshield, etc. Did you have to remove trim other than the piece at the mirror?

I had to remove numerous trim pieces: the A Piller (you need to run the wire behind the air bag), trim pieces under the glove box to access the fuse block, the D piller to run the rear camera wire, etc. I did a lot of searching on this forum to find explanations and photographs.
I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon as it is easier to buy there than drive to numerous stores looking for stuff. The grommets were one of those things. A lot of the stuff I order I will or can use for other things down the road. See these links for some stuff I ordered to make things easier.
I drilled holes in the mirror trim piece, ran the wires through appropriate sized grommets and after this forced the grommets into the holes in the mirror trim. Then ran the wires where they needed to go. Any wires that needed to be connected together, such as the radar detector plug wire to the longer wire was done AFTER running the wires through the grommets as I wanted the grommets to be as tight as possible and sometimes the connectors are too big to fit through the grommet or the hole.

I'm just a leery about busting something. I was able to partially separate the narrow piece directly behind the mirror, but then above the mirror it seems as though there is a separate cover and that is what I'm afraid of breaking. Please advise.I just installed the wiretap to wires shown in picture to my 2020 X5 M50i. I can confirm it works and will shut off about 5 min after car is turned off. Just make sure you grab the wiretap flat connectors with some needle nose pliers (because they can be hard to push in) and push alongside the wire where it will make good contact to the metal shroud (I had to disconnect the molex plug and turn it backwards to get the best angle to insert the wires).

radmjk wroteGood info...thanks! Looks a bit tedious and lots of little plastic springs to break. Probably a good project for a warmer day.Well, I found this info seen below which should help me out and those looking to access the mirror wiring for the mirror tap.
The first thing I did was pull off the Rectangular Cover Above the Mirror the one with the vent slots. I pulls off fairly easily with moderate downward force. If I remember correctly from a week ago it had some metal sing clips holding it in place and did not appear like it would break those clips. Then the plastic shroud around the rear view mirror against the windshield pulls apart mid-line with moderate force, in fact I was afraid of breaking the plastic clips and was separating the edges at the top of mid-line to see where the clips could be unhooked when all of a sudden it unsnapped apart......... the 2 pieces flew out of my hands... I thought oh crap! I just broke a part on my wife's new car and I will never hear the end of it. Amazingly, with the help of the Orthopedic Gods it was not broken and I was able to photograph the pieces to show her as proof if she ever questioned my re-installation. The re-installation was pretty easy, I just lined up the plastic prongs and it snapped together. The rectangular vent then popped back in place with a firm push. Wish I took pictures but I couldn't pull apart the molex connector and I couldn't get the correct angles to push the blades from the top so I went from the bottom.
